DJBDNS: very weird dnscache issue
Hello all, We have put a DNS server online running DJBDNS v1.06 (ndjbdns-1.06-1.el6.x86_64) on a 64-bit CentOS 6.6 server. We have done some limited testing on the machine which it passed - i.e., dnscache was talking to tinydns, the queries went through fine, etc. As soon as we put it online subjecting it to live load the following happened: 1) Within a short time period (about a minute) the dnscache process reached the CPU utilisation level of 100%. 2) The process would then die reporting the fo...

Array of files and other questions...
Hi I''m quite new to the art of writing puppet manifest, but the more I see, the more I like it :-) I''m trying to write a djbdns dnscache module. dnscache configuration is spread in several files, for instance the ip addresses allowed to query the cache each have a file in dnscache/root/ip/ whose filename is the address. I''m trying to automate the creations of those files with puppet, but it seems to be impossible to use a...

How to get djbdns to start early enough to satisfy ntpd at boot?
...will be ignored :-) Having said that, one annoying consequence of my transition some time ago to using ntpd, rather than just setting the clock once-off with ntpdate as I used to, is that the /etc/rc.d mechanism starts ntpd before /usr/local/etc/rc.d/svscan.sh starts svscan, which starts /services/dnscache. That wouldn't matter if ntpd was a bit sensible and just kept trying to find its nomminated servers, but it gives up and just sits there not synchronising time from any reference. So I have to remember to manually "/etc/rc.d/ntpd restart" every time I reboot. So: does anyone know...

tinydns exceeds "holdoff time" on startup under CentOS 7
Hello listmates, Somehow or other my DNS services that are part of the ndjbdns-1.06-1.el7.x86_64 package would not start properly at startup. When I then start them up using systemctl: systemctl start dnscache systemctl start tinydns they start just fine. >From the log I got the following for tinydns: Oct 24 15:01:43 ns99 tinydns[1867]: tinydns: version 1.06: starting: Oct-24 2014 15:01:43 EDT Oct 24 15:01:43 ns99 tinydns[1867]: tinydns: DEBUG_LEVEL set to `1' Oct 24 15:01:43 ns99 tinydns[1867]...

Samba internal DNS + 2nd DNS
I'm workign to setup Samba4 and my current centos server deployment uses TinyDNS/DNSCache for the DNS. Understanding that it is best to use Sambas internal DNS for AD, I'm wondering how others are doing DNS? I really don't want to use BIND. Should my DHCP server send ddns updates to Samba's internal DNS for client leases? Thanks, -- Greg J. Zartman Board Member Koozal...

tinydns -some help needed
Is there a tinydns or dns wizard that could give me some hints, please? I am setting up and testing tinydns, but have some problems figuring out how to route. I do get dnscache to listen on tinydns. Also I do not understand why it will not answer the given ip (127.0.0.1) to the name server. 1. Both services are up running and seems to be working fine, so why no reply, (on the first query/reply below)? 2. I am behind a firewall/router and have dynamic ip address from...

Bind 9 pharming security hole
If you are using Bind as your caching name server, please take note. http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=5366 I use DJB's dnscache so I could care less.

Feature suggestion: number of deleted files on --stats
Hi, I'm writing to suggest a small new feature: including the number of deleted files on --stats. This way it would be simplier to parse rsync output to detect if it actually changed anything. An example of a real situation: I'm mirroring some files from one server to another (dnscache's servers list). If there is some actual change, I have some extra actions to perfom (SIGHUP dnscache). Or maybe there already is a simplier way to detect if rsync actually changed anything. Please enlighten me. Thanks, Rodrigo Severo -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment...

Duplicate winbind uid/gid
We've encountered the following problem on our Redhat 7.2/XFS box running samba 2.2.3 with winbind and acl support. This week, some local accounts were created on the samba box for the installation of djb's dnscache. In addition, some NT domain accounts were also created on the NT4 PDC. The samba box is configured to use the NT4 domain for authentication; none of the local accounts are used for samba. In checking, I can see that one of the local accounts I created was assigned the same uid as that assigned...

A distro around Shorewall
Hi all, Currently at work we use a commercial product called "Gnatbox", which, I believe, is a BSD derivative running on a floppy disk. They have a pretty UI and all, but I''d feel much safer/happier with a GNU/Linux box and Shorewall doing the same thing. In fact, I''m doing something very close to this at home using Openwrt and Shorewall on my WRT54G router, but I

Samba DNS Listening IP
Is it possible to change the DNS listening IP? I'd like to run a dnscache service for primary LAN queries, but the only way to do this with Samba seems to be iptables preroute configuration to redirect port 53 requests. Thanks, -- Greg J.
