fxp damages dmesg?
Motherboard ASUS CUSL2-C with 815EP chipset and two Intel 82559 Pro/100 Ethernet cards exibits the following. dmesg reports usual text only a few seconds after reboot. Later it displays a single line with a fragment of ipfw log, e.g. 167 213.131.11.152 in via fxp0 which seems to change with each new activity of ipfw. Files /var/log/dmesg.today and /var/log/dmesg.yesterday rotate daily as usual

Monitoring FS operations
Greetings All, Without going into the specific reasons why I need to do so, is anyone aware of a method (or tool) of watching real-time, human-readable (or system call print) of ext3 filesystem operations on a mounted, active filesystem? Excuse me if this is a duplicate question but I was unable to find any similar ones in the archives. Thanks in advance! Kevin Strong Criminal Information

Getting IOAPIC errors in xl dmesg on old hardware
I am getting a series of IOAPIC errors in xl dmesg on a Dell OptiPlex GX100 machine (bought in 2000). I also get an error from traps.c which is very similar to the one in the ''Getting mm.c errors from xl dmesg on certain hardware'' thread. This happens during system startup with no DomUs running. I have attached the xl dmesg log. _______________________________________________

dmesg -- multiple boot messages
Today I install FreeBSD release 4.8 on a machine for the first time. This is on a new machine so it could easily have as yet undetected hardware faults. I observe the 'dmesg' gives startup information not only for the latest boot but also information generated in a number of previous boots. I've not seen this with earlier FreeBSD realeases including 4.7. Is it normal for FreeBSD

[PATCH] p2v: Send physical server 'dmesg' output to debug dir on conversion server.
If the virt-p2v ISO doesn't contain the correct drivers for the hardware on the physical server, that can cause peculiar conversion problems. This was hard to diagnose because we could not see the 'dmesg' output from the physical server. Upload 'dmesg' output from the physical server (more precisely: from the virt-p2v ISO's kernel running on the physical server) to the

[PATCH] Fixes bug which strips every other digit in klibc-utils dmesg output
There is a bug in the way which klibc/usr/utils/dmesg.c tries to strip the initial <[0-7]> from kernel messages. The bug causes every other numerical digit to be stripped from the output. Fixed. A bug report with lots of details has been filed for Debian and Ubuntu: * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=483186 * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/klibc/+bug/235282

dmesg and messages differences
Hi everyone. I just wondered what's the difference between /var/log/dmesg, and /var/log/messages? Why do we have 2 log files that are similar? Dmesg log for 2.6.31-rc8 kernel been built on F12 (rawhide) vs log for same kernel been built on F11 and installed on F12
Previous 2.6.31-rc8 kernel was built on F11 and installed with modules on F12. Current kernel has been built on F12 (2.6.31-0.204.rc9.fc12.x86_64) and installed on F12 before loading under Xen 3.4.1. Dmesg log looks similar to Michael Yuong''s ''rc7.git4''  kernel for F12. Boris. --- On Tue, 9/8/09, Boris Derzhavets <bderzhavets@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Boris

obdfilter/datafs-OST0000/recovery_status
I''m evaluating lustre. I''m trying what I think is a basic/simple ethernet config. with MDT and OST on the same node. Can someone tell me if the following (~150 second recovery occurring when small 190 GB OST is re-mounted) is expected behavior or if I''m missing something? I thought I would send this and continue with the eval while awaiting a response. I''m using

Problem setting up TDM22B card
Hi All, I have the problem setting up TDM22B card. Steps what I have followed are: [1] compiled zaptel-1.0.9.2 & installed the same. [2] modprobe wcfxo /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/misc/wcfxo.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

"xm dmesg" ring buffer size option?
I have a large system with pretty voluminous boot time messages that are exceeding the capacity of the ring buffer displayed by "xm dmesg" (i.e., the early messages are lost, and I see only the last messages). With a regular, non-Xen kernel, I use "log_buf_len=size" to enlarge the printk ring buffer size, but this boot option doesn''t seem to work for Xen. Anyone have
