samba and NIS?
Hi, I have a few questions. My goal is to run NIS and samba so I have a central point of passwd control and just one place to change passwords. I will eventually have 5 samba servers so this is quite important to me as I don't want to have to change passwords and setup passwords on 5 servers when changing or adding new users. Can this be done? So that if a user changes his password for

password synchronization.
Hello, I'm running samba 2.2 on FreeBSD 4.4. I was wondering if there was a way to sync up the samba and FreeBSD user passwords so that when either via the unix passwd or samba's smbpasswd program a user changes a password it is changed through both systems? If anyone is dong this successfully please let me know. Thanks. Dave.

question NIS password authenication
Fellow Samba Folks, I am trying to setup Samba version 2.2.8a. I would like to authenticate the users with their NIS password and not use a smbpasswd file on the Samba Server. I also want to use the encrypt password feature. The clients will be using XP or Win2K os. Is this possible or do I have to find a Windows Domain Server. smbpasswd error
Hi Samba people I saw this as a problem in the archives about a month ago but no solution ? I'm running samba 2.2.10 on Solaris 8. We have a script to replace /usr/bin/passwd which changes the NIS passwd and then uses smbpasswd to change the user's smb password to the same thing. Some users are getting : NIS password changed for diane on cauchy machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password

Suggestion for new 'dns proxy' feature?
Hi, Am I right I thinking that if I turn on 'dns proxy', I can do '\\smb.x.org' (if it fits into 15) letters? I'd like to use 'dns proxy' but only for local addresses in my domain. Would it be possible to do add a 'dns proxy local only = yes' or something (new option) which won't use DNS to resolve names which have a '.' in? (Alternatively, if

Using "host" works, but not "host.domain.com"????
Hi - I set up samba 1.9.18p4 on Solaris 2.6 and have things working for the most part. One strange thing though. One a Win95 client when I type: net use g: \\host\philip I connect just fine, but when I type: net use g: \\host.domain.com\philip I get the following errror: Error 53: The computer name specified in the network path cannot be located.
