How to create distortion, echo, and chopping sound in a SIP trunk?
Hi everyone,
How can I introduce some distortion, echo, chopping sound and all other bad
quality things that can happen to a SIP trunk? I have plenty of bandwidth
and crisp clear lines so the only thing that I can think of is to limit
bandwidth but even that requires quite some scripting work.
Is there any easy way to simulate a distorted SIP li...

Distorted VM with iax2 with ilbc and jitterbuffer - bug?
...s and trunk=no, messages are very clean.
Both boxes config'ed as:
trunk=yes
allow=gsm
jitterbuffer=yes
Recorded VM messages are very clean.
Conclusion: looks like the combination of trunk=yes and jitterbuffer=yes
with ilbc is causing the distorted VM messages. Normal answered calls
have no distortion.
Is this an unacceptable iax config or does this represent a bug?
(Problem can be recreated at will and is very consistent.)

MOH distorted voice in Native and MP3 format
Hello,
I have been facing an issue that voice is getting distorted sometimes in MOH
(MusicOnHold) application.
I have checked and confirmed that lame is properly installed, even tried
native formats (ulaw, alaw, gsm), but the randomly seen distortion in MOH
can't be eliminated.
I came to know about requirement of timing device for MOH and MeetMe and a
very good illustration by Andrew Kohlsmith on below old post.

Distorted output in fixed-point AEC
Hi,
I couldn't find a discussion that specifically addresses this, so here it
is.
I'm using Speex AEC in my mobile VoIP application to cancel speaker echo.
The used version is 1.2rc1 from the website, and I'm compiling with
fixed-point.
On most occasions, the AEC works very well and cancels most of the echo
(combined with the preprocessor).
On some devices, where the microphone signal

Distortion of voice after cvs upgrade
hi All,
Our configuration is,
ISDN PRI lines connected to Asterisk Server,
SIP users connected to Asterisk
We route calls from ISDN PRI to SIP users,
We did a CVS upgrade few days ago, now the sip users(CISCO phones)
are experiencing, distortion of voice while they are engaged in a call.
ie, SIP users can here the call clearly, but the outside caller heres distorted
voice. ie, to the caller, call is intermittent.
Before the CVS upgrade, the call quality was fine.
We did the CVS upgrade cos, earlier version had probs, when restarting

Should Speex VBR Introduce Distortion?
...'speexenc' (version 1.0.1),
the result is quite acceptable... until I enable VBR. Then it distorts
horribly.
My understanding of VBR is that it frees the encoder to vary the number
of bits emitted to better maintain the quality requested, and so I would
have expected, if there were to be distortion, that it would have shown
itself with VBR turned off.
I thought that VBR turning on VAD might be persuading the encoder to
interpret the sound as background noise, but experiments with VAD in CBR
mode seem to my ear to add only a very small amount of distortion over
non-VAD CBR mode and certainly...

[Asterisk-Dev] Severe ISDN signal distortion in CVS-HEAD with octoBRI
...r certain circumstances, octoBRI (and most likely quadBRI) ISDN
cards (Junghanns/CologneChip) severely distort certain ISDN payload.
2.Although these claims relate to the bristuff patch, the problem might
not be limited to bristuff and in fact be rather asterisk/zaptel/libpri
related.
3.Signal distortion is limited to the use of the CVS version of the
Bristuff patch for asterisk (tested on
Bristuff-0.2.0-RC8f-CVS/Asterisk-CVS-05.29.05). The Stable versions of
the Bristuff patch do not have the problem (tested on
Bristuff-0.2.0-RC8f/Asterisk-1.0.7 and Bristuff-0.2.0-RC8n/Asterisk-1.0.9).

scratchy sound
Hi,
I'm experiencing a few (but meaningful) cases of audio distortion (or bad quality). I can't say yet how often this happens.
Please listen to the following sound file:
http://213.96.91.201/temp/distorted_audio_1.wav
This was recorded by Asterisk while the local SIP caller was dialing out a SIP trunk (so the problem is on my side, definitely, and it doesn...

Distorted output in fixed-point AEC
Hi Jean-Marc, thanks for the response.
First, I will clarify again that floating-point solves this - so isn't that a bug in fixed-point?
Also, I understand that algorithmically the AEC won't cancel echo properly on a non-linear signal, but why completely distort the output?
If the echo just won't get cancelled it would be acceptable, but in the current state it disables the ability to

Chained Vorbis Stream Distorting
...udio ends up playing, but it is very distorted until it switches back to a
prerecorded segment.
I've uploaded a test of the chain here:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/teamalphaservices-test/b1-Live-b2.ogg
It plays perfectly in Google chrome, but when attempting to use my own
decoder, it has strange distortion when playing the live part.
Here's a link to a Github Gist of the decoder I'm using:
https://gist.github.com/DrakeWitt/3634299ce4363d26d16c34be229a350f
What's the best way to modify my logic to compensate for the odd stream?
Thanks!

Distorted Audio for incoming DTMF
...I can listen to the tones
being played.
On most calls, the tones appear to be detected properly and are muted
out of the audio stream (except for a slight click at the beginning of
the tone). For problem calls, the tones can be heard in the audio
stream as terribly distorted. sometimes the distortion is like the tone
being echoed back over itself with some sort of pitch shift, other times
the distortion is like the tone is being over-amplified. The unusual
thing is that regular audio on these calls is fine.

Music On Hold distorted
I have searching the forums here on how to get Music On Hold working
and I have been able to get * to accept a command for MusicOnHold
and for Meetme after loading the ztdummy module. I used the default
config for /etc/zaptel.conf since I saw no guidance on this. My problem
now is that when I activate MusicOnHold, the sample music file sounds
very slow and distorted. My best guess is that it is

[Bug 58378] [NV86] Distorted graphics on NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G after upgrade the kernel to 3.7.0 version
...ernel and your nvapeek results clearly suggest you should be
affected...
Have you enabled compiz (i.e. OpenGL-based 3D acceleration features)? I assume
that so far, you haven't (it does not seem to be active in Ubuntu by default),
which most likely is the only reason why you are not seeing the distortion
issue (so far).
See e.g.
http://www.howtoforge.com/install-compiz-on-the-unity-desktop-on-ubuntu-12.04-precise-pangolin
(depending on your particular Ubuntu version) on how to enable compiz. I am
almost certain that once you have done so, you will also run see the distorted
graphics, but you now...

oggenc adds severe distortion
...convert to ogg vorbis format
for use in my car and portable player. I don't usually notice anything
amiss, but on the last track of Mike Oldfield's "Music of the Spheres"
album ("Musica Universalis", at the very end crescendo), the converted
.ogg file exhibits terrible distortion (sounds like digital clipping).
This does not occur with MP3 or WMA formats. I used a quality factor of 4.
Does oggenc raise the amplitude (to cause digital clippiing)? Any
idea why this happens?
Also, my previous experience with ogg vorbis format is that it provide
nice, seamless gapless trans...

Vorbis-java wav-ogg encoder produces distorted OGG file
Hi,
I have tried using the VorbisEncoder class available with the vorbis-java
port of the ogg-vorbis and shout and the resulting ogg file from the encoder
is jumbed up and distorted. I have tried compiling the sources and changing
the quality in the source with no success. Has anyone managed to use the
encoder successfully. if so your response will be of great.

iax connection and 1 way distortion
I'm new to * and I have my * box connected to another * box located at my
ISP via iax2. Using ilbc everyting works fine but with any other codec I've
tried (gsm, ulaw, alaw) there is severe distortion on the sound going out of
my box as well as a second or two of delay. The incoming sound quality is
fine. This happens even if the outgoing sound is coming from the voice mail
prompts on my *. Any ideas what I should be looking for?

MusicOnHold Loudness/Distortion
For whatever reason, the music on hold is extremely distorted and
loud. It didn't used to be this way and I haven't changed anything,
yet it persists. This is on all the channels we use (SIP, IAX2, Zap,
ALSA). Can anyone help with this, or has anyone seen this? The mp3s
play fine on any computer and haven't changed since they did work.

these calls the remote party is quieter than usual. They can hear us
just fine. But when we speak, our side becomes heavily distorted. It
only happens when we speak. As long as we are not talking, the audio
is fine other than the remote party is not as loud as normal.
The distortion sounds a lot like what a speaker sounds like when it is
blown. Not quite static, not quite feedback, but very crackly and
metallic with pops and squeals. It drowns out all other sound on the
call. We hear it very loud, almost painfully and you have to hold the
handset away from your ear as...
