strange diskspace consuming
Hi, I do a tgz-backup some maildir-folders with n*1000 off files and a lot of GB in storage. The backuped maildirs are removed after the tar. My assumption was, that the free diskspace should be bigger after that, but from what I get with df, it looks like I'm loosing space. Currently the tgz is saved on the same disk/mountpoint. Any hint, why removing the maildirs dont free diskspace as expected? It is still an ext3 filesystme Regards and thanks for hints . G?tz -- G...

Yes, you can: whenever you are unable to make a decent backup at least once a week, your diskspace must be considered to big. ot: maildir has overdrawn his diskspace quota
I have Postfix/Dovecot with virtual domains, same setup unaltered since server was set up quite a while ago last month, added a new virtual domain, 'just like before'. but, today noticed this in the queue/log 'overdrawn his diskspace quota'[1]: user's Maildir cur has like 48,762,696 bytes (lot less than other users) tried some searches, found similar probs, but, no solution as yet any ideas ? after physically removing some emails from this user's 'cur', I re-queued 'stuck' message, it was then...

Resizing EXT3 partition in guest instance CentOS5
...ce 1 VM harddisk space and using the 'release' harddisk space to add onto my second VM. Basically I need to know how can I reduce and increase an ext3 partition in CentOS KVM. I did a search and basically i can do it by booting the VM using Knoppix and use Gparted to reduce and increase the diskspace. I am thinking of the following 1) Boot first VM using Knoppix 2) Reduce the ext3 partition disk size using Gparted 3) Shutdown the VM and resize the diskspace using Virtual Manager 4) Increae the diskspace of the second VM using Virtual Manager 5) Boot up second VM using Knoppix 6) Increase the...

diskspace and diskinodes tag for openvz
Hi! as far as I understood from "xml format for openvz driver" thread available at [1] it should be possible to specify via libvirt disk size and disk inodes for openvz VM.But the following device section in VM xml description doesn't set disksize and diskinodes properly (it looks like those parameters are taken from default OpenVZ config and not as they are specified in

XCP - Reclaim diskspace from snapshots on xcp 1.0
Hi list, Saw that there''s a patch for xenserver 5.6fp1 which should fix this: http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX129267 Anybody know if/when this will happen on XCP? I have the same problem - disk usage remains the same after snapshot deletion - this is in the log on the pool master: vhd-util: libvhd::vhd_validate_footer: invalid footer cookie: ÇÇÇÇÇÇÇÇ This guy has the same

adding SAN "diskspace" to CentOS system residing on VMware
Hey, group, I've got a system installed on a VMware VM. The SAN administrator allocated me more disk space from the (EMC) SAN and I need ultimately to create another partition to mount on the filesystem. Two (initial) questions about this: What steps do I need to take prior to creating a new partition with fdisk? (The SAN space, BTW, is connected through VMware.) The OS is already

Recommended partitioning for xen host
Is there a recommended partitioning for dom0? Here''s what I have planned. /swap 2GB /boot 100MB (ext3) / 5GB (ext3) xenmachines LVM volume group for the remaining diskspace dom0 will install in 5GB / and each domU will have a swap and root logical volume in "xenmachines" Thank you, _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Storage upgrade maildir suggestions?
Hi, we start to run out of diskspace soon as our users start to keep mails for longer time periods. That's fine, but space consuming. The maildirs are about 1 TB in total, and not long ago we enabled zlib which is very nice. Now I have some thoughts about the next steps: a) Migrating the whole system to a new server with more...

Transcoding listening test
...t quality but about filesizes. One could assume that such a user would have a collection of mp3's at 128kbps or higher bitrates, and uses an encoder like BladeEnc or Xing. He wants to take uses of ogg's supposed quality and transcode his 128-or-higher files into 96 or 112kbps oggs to save diskspace. Even if he realizes it will only lower quality, it will gain him/her diskspace. We know that transcoding will introduce errors, but it is interesting to check how bad they are. If the errors are small due to ogg's encoding quality, they may not be all that bad on mediocre equipment, and the...

Jump Raven
...;s packaged version). I am running off of the CD at /media/cdecorder. The setup proceeds showing me a window saying "Initializing Setup..." and then an error message with "Insufficient memory or disk space". This is, of course, a completely bogus error. I have gigabytes of diskspace and lots of memory. Any suggestions on how I can run wine to try to debug this? Are Windows 3.1 applications even supported? Thanks in advance for any help.

I hate myself for asking this, but...
...? I usually don't bitch about releases, I promote the "it's done when it's done" and "contribute or shut up" attitudes more than most people, but I REALLY want to start the mass-encoding as soon as possible, because it will take quite a long time... If I had the diskspace I would save them as FLAC, together with a description-file and encode them later, but I "only" have ~150GB of diskspace, which is nowhere near enough for that... Multiple quota roots
IMAP RFC defines a way to have multiple quota roots. For example with filesystem quota the first quota root would be "available disk space in filesystem" and second quota root would be the user's normal quota. I guess this could similarly be useful for example to have a per-domain quota (eg. 10GB) and each user have their own separate quota (eg. 1GB), so that 20 the users together

Status of fragment support, advantages of having fewer indoes
...ion regarding fragment support of ext2/3 since 2003 [1], Andreas stating that there were problems with the xattr implementation. Has this changed in the meanwhile? My second question is regarding the bytes-per-inode ratio: What benefits would I gain from having fewer inodes? I reckon it's only diskspace (if so, how much?). best regards, Michael Renner [1] http://www.kerneltraffic.org/kernel-traffic/kt20030428_214.html#8
