Anyone got Diskless BOOT working under CentOS ???
Im trying to get a diskless boot set up under CentOS 5.2, and having no luck at all. I am to the point of running system-config-netboot, and whatever information I put in, I get an error message. Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks, I've followed a set of instructions I found on http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting. I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I followed the instructions, extrapolating a bit as the window defining the diskless client...

PXELINUX 2.0 diskless booting RedHat 9.0
I'm trying to boot RedHat 9.0 on a diskless PC from a head machine running Redhat 9.0. The network appears to be setup correctly. I can boot the installation disk image fine using pxelinux. What I am trying to setup is a number of different Linux systems each with its own root directory on the head machine. I am hoping that I don'...

Read only nfsroot and diskless booting CentOS 6?
Does anyone have any good how-to's or documentation on setting up read only root NFS for pxe booting diskless computers? A few months ago I stumbled upon an official Redhat doc through a google search(not hosted by redhat and I cannot find it anywhere on the Redhat site) written by Dave Kline named "Configuring diskless clients with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" from 2011. It seemed to be a work in p...

gigabit networks and kernel loads
...een using pxelinux with Intel 850 1.7 Ghz P4 motherboards using 10/100 ethernet switches for about a year in a multichannel visual generation system. We are shifting to SuperMicro P4SAA 2.8 Ghz P4 motherboards with onboard gigabit ethernet and gigabit ethernet switches. Put are hung up because the diskless slave nodes will not load the (Linux) kernel from the master 2.8 Ghz computer. Everything seems to be fine up to the kernel load. The diskless node does a PXE boot and requests DHCP data from master. Pxelinux.0 loads and finds the configuration file. The menu comes up and the diskless node waits...

memdisk and winPE diskless boot
Hi, I am working on the diskless booting over Infiniband networks. At the moment we have created and implemented architecture which allow diskless booting of Linux nodes on x86, x86_64 and Itanium platforms. The system works by booting first small custom made Linux kernel of the Infiniband adapter ROM. The kernel has enough of i...

Unable to PXE boot
I'm replacing the master node in a cluster and having issues PXE booting the diskless nodes. The current master works fine, but the new node to replace the current node which has the same setup is having the issues. The hardware is: Dell r920 (new master node, UEFI) Dell r620's (diskless, BIOS) Dell 1950's (diskless, BIOS) When trying to boot, the 1950 node displays (thou...

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
I have several machines, same hardware and config, but one tiny little change.. the hostname. Each one of these diskless machines needs its own hostname. Presently my pxelinux.cfg is setup like: prompt 1 default Gentoo timeout 10 label Gentoo kernel boot/kernel-3.16.5-gentoo APPEND root=/dev/nfs rw ip=dhcp nfsroot=192.168.1.10:/RAID/diskless/XXXXX-mythtv-0.27-fixes,tcp,rsize=131072 ,wsize=131072,nfsvers=3...

Diskless Clients
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, Someone on the list today was asking about diskless clients. I have a guide written for doing diskless clients across NFS and PXE. I noticed there was nothing existing on the wiki for such a thing. I wanted to ask before I created the main category "Diskless Clients" under the How To page. Any objections to that there? Or suggest a better...

2 questions on diskless client setup.
Using Centos 5.2 upgraded from 5.0 using yum on a couple of old Dells in a lab environment. I don't think hardware is part of the problem, just need configuration help. 1: I can boot the diskless client and it come up, but when I do a "mount" command on the client, the output is indistinguishable from the output of the mount command on the server. Currently the fstab in .../root and .../snapshot/<diskless client name> have no entries in them. I set this up using the &quo...

Upstream vendor's diskless vs LTSP
Hello all, I have a customer that insists of using upstream vendor's diskless (system-config-netboot) rather than LTSP. The reason is that he wants to use a 100% packages from the vendor, not from LTSP or any other party. I try the vendor's diskless system, and although it's very simple to setup, it lacks the support and/or documentation whereas LTSP is very good...

Diskless xen
Hello, I want to implement a diskless xen hypervisor. The way I suppose it will work is xen booted over pxe and getting iscsi san storage to store vm images. Is solution like that usable ? _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

PXE-bootable diskless Asterix distro?
Hello Since I got the IBM Netvista to boot Linux, and am still waiting for the Compact Flash cards that I ordered, I was wondering if someone knew of an Asterisk distribution that can run on that kind of diskless host? I've taken a look at AstLinux and AskoziaPBX, but they both seem to be meant to be installed on a solid-state medium instead of RAM. For instance, the Netvista is unable to uncompress a kernel, so expects "linux" instead of "vmlinuz", etc. Or is it trivial even for a...

PXEBoot/Diskless client NFS issue
Hey CentOS list! I've got an oddity with a diskless client setup that I suspect is the result of the initrd.img I'm using, or some parameter I'm unaware -- or I need to build my own initrd image (and could use some assistance on what has to be done in that department) Testbed is defined as: VM A: ip: 192.168.250.10 with dhcp server, tf...

rpcinfo *very* slow on diskless client
Hi all, Sorry, this might be a bit off topic, but I'm not sure of the best place to ask. I'm booting a diskless PC with PXELinux, and the kernel loads successfully and I can log in and use the system as you'd expect. I have done this before, however this time I decided to try using ClusterNFS so that the diskless clients can share the boot server's filesystem. Unfortunately during system boot up to...
