seatools for DOS
I downloaded the 'seatools for DOS' diskette creator on seagate website. it's a windows program that creates the diskette; so a floppy disk must be present in the drive. running the program is ok, but creating the diskette fails, it says "the current diskette format not valid". while the diskette is blank, vfat, mounted and lin...

more: Have install diskette for 3.0, but can't find the .img for 4.0
I have found something called: diskboot.img at: http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/centos/4/os/i386/images/ But it is 6Mb large (6411Kb) instead of 1411Kb And the rawreadwrirewin program gets an error on it when run on NT. On Win2000, it makes a diskette that fails to boot.. So really, HELP!!!! I 'just' discovered that my old bootable diskette is for Centos 3.0, and my other CDs are Centos 3.3. ================================================================ OK. I am in an emergency crunch. I need that 4.0 install diskette. Like 2...

Boot diskette for install CD
(New to CentOS and just joined the list.) Is there a boot diskette image for the install CD? I want to install CentOS in a classroom that does not have CD boot enabled. I couldn''t find one on the install CD, although it did have a USB flash drive boot image. I''m pretty sure that the machines in the classroom are too old to be able to boot from U...

merging multiple diskettes for pxelinux usage
I have some hardware vendor diagnostic utilities that I'd like to use via PXE. One example is a three diskette test suite. How can I merge all these diskettes into a single PXE bootable image? I have been using pxelinux, memdisk, and isolinux successfully for other things, so I'm a little embarrased even asking. Is there a way to PXE boot ISO images? Can syslinux support larger than 2.8MB floppy image...

Connecting to 1.9.18p10 from DOS boot diskette
I'm trying to connect to aSamba 1.9.18p10 share on my HP-UX 10.20 host, using an MS-DOS boot diskette (well, actually a Windows 95 boot diskette, but relying on the DOS-style protocol stack, etc.). When I issue the same username and password that I use to connect to that share from my Windows NT client, I get an invalid password message. Two things come to mind: is the DOS client sending my user...

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! after installation of Driver Diskette for enabling Onboard RAID Controller Chipset
Hi, I have HP DL 180 G6 2U Rack Server with HP Smart Array Controller Card B110i Onboard SATA Controller Chipset. This server has 4 * 500 GB SATA HDD have configured RAID 1+0 and it shows Single Logical Drive of 940 GB Hard Disk in the RAID BIOS. Have created driver diskette using dd command to enable this controller card to the CentOS 5.6 x86_64 arch and it shows HP LOGICAL VOLUME of size 940 GB by the Anaconda installer to load CentOS 5.6 on these server. Below are the steps to enable driver diskette from HP (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Softwar...

Syslinux 1.75, LEAF Bering 1.2, Compaq 2266
I have been using the LEAF Bering firewall for a year or so. It boots with Syslinux 1.75. But Bering is too large for a 1440KB floppy, so it formats the diskette as 1680KB. Recently I found a small Compaq 2266 box to replace a larger Compaq 7170 to run the firewall. But when I try to boot the Bering diskette on the 2266 I get the following message: Loading Linux ............ Boot failed: please change disks and press a key to continue. I have determined...

MSCDEX over NDIS ethernet
I would like to implement a replacement MSCDEX driver (based on the replacement in FreeDOS SHSUCDX http://johnson.tmfc.net/freedos/shsucdx.html and SYSLINUX) however instead of talking to disk BIOS calls or PATA chipset I would like it to talk to the NDIS driver and act as a TFTP client simply forfulling application get block requests through TFTP. Its not clear where the ISO9660 CD

syslinux / antique computers
Hi, is there an easy way to circumvent the SYSLINUX novice protection thing? intended users don't know about CTRL key to circumvent it. I'm trying to make a generic bootdisk for systems of 8086 - Pentium4. however the bootdisk is slow, so I'd like to use Syslinux + Memdisk to load a diskette image. then the text displayed to user will be: 1) FreeDOS bootdisk (accelerated, 386 computer minimum) 2) FreeDOS bootdisk #load 360KB diskette image from the bootfloppy into RAM - speedup!!! label 1 kernel memdisk append initrd=fdboot.img label 2 kernel freedos.bss the novice protection wil...

issues when add driverdisk to centos5.6 using NFS method
...indicated in the centos5.6 website, we can see they not only support http, ftp, but also nfs. http://centos.org/docs/5/html/Installation_Guide-en-US/s1-kickstart2-options.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ driverdisk (optional) Driver diskettes can be used during kickstart installations. You must copy the driver diskettes's contents to the root directory of a partition on the system's hard drive. Then you must use the driverdisk command to tell the installation program where to look for the driver disk. driverdisk <parti...

Win95 Full System Backup to Samba box?
I have a small home network running three Win95 pcs with a Samba/Linux server (thanks, Andrew and Linus!!!). All works well. The question now is what I can do to make a full system backup (including hidden and system files) from the Win95 boxes to the 8mm tape drive on the Linux box. I know I could use smbmount to mount the Win95 drive, and then do a tar or cpio backup, but I'm not nearly

Bryan Smith: Thanks for the IPCop recommendation
...IOBEG addresses and have it working beautifully. Have 3 zones and a recent download of several files sized *teen megabytes and larger gave me throughput of 590-600 KB/sec off my cable modem. I am out in the low-density boonies, but I still feel this is fairly impressive. They even have a boot diskette available to support those old BIOS that won't boot CDs, as this unit was. So, thanks Bryan. I'm trying to configure a backup unit on an old Aptiva DX2/66. Have 1 ISA Etherjet. Need a couple more ISA NICS that are configurable for IRQ/IOBASE. Anyone that wants to put two old good ISA...

feature request: gzip support in syslinux itself
...Example is the Memtest86+ binary (90KB uncompressed --> 35KB gzip'd) and maybe Smart Boot Manager (gzip'd COM32 binary instead of normal COM32 binary?). I'm using both on a simple bootdisk, and all space savings are welcome. a workaround could ofcourse be to write each of them to a diskette, then read in the diskette (RAREAD, DISKCOPY, Linux dd, maybe RAWRITE), compress the imagefile, then load it using Memdisk which has (g)zip decompression support. other possibility would be to create an intermediate loader (let's call it 'ungzip') which would decompress the GZ and the...

booting from MS-dos disk.@home.nl
...I am using memdisk with pxelinux, i have created ms-dos boot disk from windows xp, but when i boot from it stops on starting.... > what is the problem can anybody tell me.. > please read Syslinux and Memdisk documentation, which tell you to add 'raw' parameter. The diskette image that WinXP creates uses a Windows Millennium kernel. Either the kernel or the bootsector used on it break booting through Memdisk on purpose somehow. I'll try to test if it's only the bootsector, as http://fdos.org/AutoIndex/index?dir=kernel/&file=SYS.dev.COM is able to write...

Question of syslinux chainloading
...DOS" kernel, which is only FAT16-capable. There is only one actual IO.SYS per Windows version. (MSDOS.SYS is a configuration file instead of a kernel part, for these versions.) MS-DOS 7.10 (first appearing in MSW 95 OSR2, later re-used in MSW 98 and 98 SE) and 8.00 (MSW Me, and MSW XP DOS boot diskettes) both support FAT32 equally well. MS-DOS 8.00 (without some patches that are around) only supports booting in DOS mode from diskettes. Hard disk booting only succeeds when directly passing control to the Windows loader. Regards, ecm

boot hangs on trying to start sendmail
...orks, but now.... The system hangs trying to start sendmail. I was thinking hard about disabling sendmail, but thought I needed it for internal functions, so did not. yet. So is there someway to get the system working so I can change something like disable sendmail? The system has no cdrom, diskette, etc. In fact the kybd/monitor require a special temp setup. Perhaps I can edit the kernel line in grub to disable something? If necessary, I can pull the drive and put it in a system that does support cdrom. That is the way I did the initial harddrive install.

Disk preparation
...on to pxelinux (bpbatch doesn't boot the installation kernels for SuSE 8.1 and SLES 8--they appear to be too big). This has been a pretty easy transition, except for the fact that I'm using bpbatch to install Windows 2000 over the network as well as Linux. For Windows 2000 I use a DOS boot diskette with network drivers and run the 16-bit WINNT.EXE program which copies the source files onto the C: drive on the target system. The catch is that the C: drive may or may not exist when I start this process (it needs to be a DOS FAT partition)--that is, I can't make any assumptions about the c...
