Non-constancy of variances in mixed model.
...bacteria that have been cultured in said antimicrobial for the past year, the other group is of the same species, but lab stock and has not gone had any prior contact with the antimicrobial. Because I take four readings from each disk, and there are three disks in a petri dish, and three petri dishes for each lineage (or replicate), and there are 5 lineages for each group/treatment, I want to use lme() so I can add lineage, dish, and disk as random effects, and have group as the fixed effect, so I'm analysing differences between two groups, a bit like a t.test or anova, but without ridd...

JRoar can dish out pure Java Vorbis player.
Hi, I have developed the streaming server JRoar(http://www.jcraft.com/jroar/). In the recent improvement, JRoar can dish out pure Java Vorbis Player and become the applet host. You may know that you can get JOrbisPlayer applet from http://www.jcraft.com/jorbis/player/JOrbisPlayer.php , however that applet is digitally signed. By this hack, you can enjoy the live ogg vorbis stream by the applet

Adding two different factors to one observation?
In a data frame, I would like to assign two or more factors to one observation. Is it possible? If so, how? Example: In the variable $ dishes, there are several levels: "cup", "plate", "saucer". In my first observation, I see a saucer only. But in the second one, I see a cup and a saucer. In the third, however, there is only a cup, in the fourth a plate only and so forth. I'm an R beginner and I'...

Direcway Satalite Dish
Is any one using a Direcway Satalite to stream audio out. I want to do some live broadcasting next month and I live so far out in the country that this is the only broadband source available. Is there any source of information on this to read up on? Any problems anyone has run into? Things I should look out for or do? Thanks in advances. Dave Kelly

Probit analysis
...from a plant and observed its effect on the fungus *Fusarium oxysporum* by the food poisoning method. Solutions of the compound at concentrations of 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250µg/ ml were added to sterilized medium in Petri dish (9cm dia.) and after transferring the mycelia of fungal strains, the dishes were incubated in the dark. When the mycelium of fungi reached the edges of the control (0µg/ ml) dishes, the antifungal indices were calculated. Each test was repeated three times and the average was calculated. The formula to calculate antifungal index (AI) was AI % = (1- Da / Db) * 100 Where...

data analysis for partial two-by-two factorial design
...so I am always be careful before starting to do analysis and hope to gather supportive information from real statisticians. Sorry that I did not tell more info about experiment design. I did not do this experiment, my collaborator did it and I only got chance to analyze the data. There are nine dishes of cells. Three replicates for each treatment combination. So randomly select three dishes for no drug A/no drug B treatment, a second three dishes for drug A only, then last three dishes to add both A and B drugs. After drug treatments, they measure DNA methylation and genes or gene expression...
