Using Asterisk as Voicemail Server on a dinosaur Meridian System
We have a dinosaur Meridian system (~version 2) with 4 digital lines going to a Repartee Voicemail server. The Repartee got smoked by lightning two days ago and I'm itching to get Asterisk installed in its place. PRI is not an option since the system is so old that it doesn't even support PRI. I need to figure out how to connect the old Meridian to Asterisk otherwise. Any advice on

Dinosaur *
...couple of hours searching and browsing the archives and skimming the Handbook (very nice). I've found recommendations for 800-1000 Mhz and 128-256 MB RAM machines. My curiosity is not about what machine I need to start using * to support live comm ops. Rather, I want to know if a couple of dinosaurs that I have in the corner can be used to do some learning. I have a Pentium 133Mhz 16MB RAM box with PCI bus, and a Pentium 75Mhz 32MB RAM box with PCI bus. Will these boxes work for back-to-back experimentation with PRI in this configuration?: POTS phone-----[ * ]---PRI---[ * ]---POTS phone...

.... And even if I did the task to change the uids and guids to the higher range, there are still backups. And it would mean that restoring backups also involves changing uids and guids. So if it all works today without problems - I prefer to be a dinosaur ;) (and please don't respond that the dinosaurs are not here anymore ;);) Cheers Olaf > > As I said, I can only make suggestions, which are based on current best > practice, whether you accept them is up to you, it is your network. > > Rowland >

CentOS 6.x desktop specs: minimum requirements
Hi, I often have to deal with relatively obsolete hardware in schools, public libraries, small town halls, etc. I still have a handful of CentOS 5.x installations around for these, but I wonder what CentOS 6.x desktop specs are, e. g. the minimum requirements (in terms of CPU and RAM) to reasonably run it. Will a battered first-generation P-IV with 512 MB RAM be sufficient? How much RAM does

Optus Australia Multiline SHDSL service
Hi, I am currently trying to find a replacement for a dinosaur PBX and want to replace it with a VoIP solution. We have just moved our lines over to an Optus Multiline from a Telstra ISDN Onramp 30 service with 100 lines. My question for you good people is what sort of hardware do I need to interface Asterix into the Optus Multiline? The Optus service is terminated in my office to a SHDSL

Repeated use of dyn.load().
I am working with a function "foo" that explicitly dynamically loads a shared object library or "DLL", doing something like dyn.load("bar.so"). This is a debugging exercise so I make changes to the underlying Fortran code (yes, I acknowledge that I am a dinosaur) remake the DLL "bar.so" and then run foo again. This is all *without* quitting and

R 2.2.1 installation trouble on SGI/Sun (PR#8575)
Hi, I'm upgrading to R 2.2.1 and have bumped into some problems. I have been successful with installing on x86 and PPC Linux, but am unable to install R on Solaris 7 and on IRIX 6.5. Configuration and compilation go through just fine, but "make install" fails: gmake[1]: Entering directory `/scratch/atossava/R-2.2.1/doc' installing doc ... ../tools/install-sh: no destination

Problems building R 2.9.0... on SGI and Sun once again
I've successfully built R 2.9.0 on Linux (amd64, i386 and ppc), but am having a bit of trouble with legacy boxen. What should have gone into the variable that is empty at the time it is used in "for f in $SOMETHING" and why does it end up being empty? Using ControlPlayback with AWS S3
Hi, I have tested ControlPlayback and grabbed files via an apache server with no issue. I want to be able to grab files via aws S3 which would require me to add some headers to authenticate. Is there any way to have Asterisk add headers or would I need a http proxy in the middle? TIA. Dovid -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Repeated use of dyn.load().
Hello, In such cases, with C code, I call dyn.unload before loading the modified shared lib again. I don't know if this changed recently, but it used to be needed or else R wouldn't load the new lib. When I call dyn.unload followed by dyn.load I never had problems. (Or the other way around, call dyn.unload before modifying the C code.) Hope this helps, Rui Barradas On 3/1/2018 8:52

dell says bye bye to Linux
Well. A priori. I'm a dedicated legacy OS person. I cut my teeth on command line DOS and then WIN 3.xx (these days that means WFWG 3.11). I drew the line at WIN9x. Hate that beast with a true passion, but because it is the 800 pound gorilla, I have to find some way to accomodate it in the future. So, here is the rub. Linux is a real PITA. Capital PITA. Unbelievably techie and that is bad.
