Log or diary file
Hi! Is it possible to set a file to which both commands and output would get automatically saved? I've tried with sink(), but only get the output. I mean something like a combined history and sink, as you get with File/Save to File.. in the windows GUI. Tis is done with diary filename in Matlab, and you can state diary on and diary off to control what is being saved to the file. KOrganizer problems
...ed that, although they hadn't succeeded, my personal login was too weak, and I should harden it. I changed the password on the server, as user and as smbuser, then on the laptop. My fstab mounts work perfectly with the adjusted auth.servername.anne file, and I can read my mail, but I use a diary on the server, and I'm having problems there. The reminder daemon that should start when kde initialises tells me that it can't access the diary. It's not clear exactly what is happening to korganizer within kontact. I can see the diary, and reloading it doesn't blank it out...

...ike to be able to merge the two result sets based on ''created_at'' which is is common in both the ActiveRecord results and the JSON results from the API. Created_at is the only common element between the two data sets. Here’s what I have in my controller for retrieving the data: @diary = current_user.diary(params[:page]) start_date = @diary.first.created_at.to_s(:date_query) end_date = @diary.last.created_at.to_s(:date_query) @tweets = JSON.parse(Net::HTTP.get(URI.parse("http:// search.twitter.com/search.json?from=#{current_user.twitter_name} &since=#{start_date}&unt...

History plugin
Hello, I felt annoyed enough when having to redirect user back to their previous location in a hackish way that I wrote this plugin. It avoids storing POST and Ajax request. It also has a facility to specify actions not to store in the history. If you are interested, it''s there: http://blog.cosinux.org/pages/rails-history See you all, Damien -- Damien MERENNE

ER strikes back
...' table, for example to know how many articles a user has, is faster, since this table does not contain any additional data as the articles themselves. Now, the real question: Here at my job, I''ve convinced my boss to rail the next project. Among a lot of other things, there will be a diary. It will have appointments, meetings, tasks, and, who knows, more things. I have named all those things ''events'' (note that the diary elements inherit from event, as articles did from content). So, ¿how would you do this database schema? I have a partner that says that entity-rela...

[Fwd: Weft - a free open-source QDA tool]
Hi Just released a first version of the WxRuby project I''ve been working on. Firstly, I wanted to say thanks to everyone on this list who''s helped at various points over the past year - every time I ran into a problem someone jumped in with advice. A very brief explanation of the app - I''m a sociologist/anthropologist by trade, and the app is intended for use in

I like "Optimization Diary" :) Obviously, we sometimes loose debug information on variables while optimizing, and so the trick is to make it degrade nicely. Nevertheless, I think that we can often be more expressive than just using a si...

Encoding
What''s a good solution for fixing character encoding problems for compatibility between ascii and utf-8? The database is postgres and is encoded in utf-8. Once in awhile there will be a compatibility error from strings from a webform. Is there a command to fix this besides using a_string.force_encoding(''utf-8'')? Even this doesn''t seem to always work either.

rumours of openssh vulnerability
Hi all, There are rumours flying around about a supposed vulnerability in OpenSSH. Two details which I've seen mentioned many times are (a) that this exploit was used to break into a RedHat system running OpenSSH 4.3 plus backported security patches, and (b) that "recent" versions of OpenSSH are not affected; but it's not clear if there is any basis for these rumours. Given
