y with diaeresis (PR#143)
...ing system (http://blueberry.kubism.ku.dk/R)'
is down (at least, I get a "The requested URL /R was not
found on this server." message)]
To display properly this message, you mailer must handle properly
latin1 encoding. With other encoding, I suppose that the role
played by 'y diaeresis' should be played by the character
with code '255'
Look to the following example:

UTF-8 and .Rd files
I have been converting to utf8 from latin1, and this gives me
problems, some solved, but here is one unsolved: In my .Rd files, I
have included '\encoding{UTF-8}' at the top. Despite this, the HTML
help pages contains 'content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"', and my
name is mangled. What can I do about this?
I'm on Ubuntu (latest), R-2.3.1
Thanks,
G?ran

read.spss and umlaut
Hello
When I read a SPSS *.por file with read.spss everything after a umlaut is
missing:
> library("foreign")
> spssdaten <- read.spss("projets.por")
> attr(spssdaten$PROJETX, "value.labels")[1:20]

Problem with keyboard layout
..."'").
I then tried swedish keyboard layout, by setting
keymap = "sv"
in the guest config file (swedish and finnish keyboards are, I think, the
same). That fixed most problems, with only one remaining (as far as I've
noticed this far): The [tilde, circumflex, diaeresis]-key won't work. Pressing that
key gives nothing, and that key + space gives just space (with and
without shift or altgr).
Any helpful ideas?

Erik

use of UTF-8 \uxxxx escape sequences in function arguments
While preparing a function that contained non-ASCII characters for inclusion
into a package, I replaced all non-ASCII characters with UTF-8 escape
sequences (using \uxxxx) in order to make the package portable (and adhere to
"R CMD check"). What I didn't expect: when one uses UTF-8 escape sequences in
function arguments, one needs to use UTF-8 escape sequences when calling the
