Export ZFS over NFS ?
I''ve got my first server deployment with ZFS. Consolidating a pair of other file servers that used to have a dozen or so NFS exports in /etc/dfs/dfstab similar to; /export/solaris/images /export/tools /export/ws ..... and so on.... For the new server, I have one large zfs pool; -bash-3.00# df -hl bigpool 16T 1.5T 15T 10% /export that I am starting to populate. Should I simply share /export, or should I separately sh...

Monitoring filessytem access
When somebody is hammering on the system, I want to be able to detect who''s doing it, and hopefully even what they''re doing. I can''t seem to find any way to do that. Any suggestions? Everything I can find ... iostat, nfsstat, etc ... AFAIK, just show me performance statistics and so forth. I''m looking for something more granular. Either *who* the

NFS issue with ZFS
I have Solaris 10 U7 that is exporting ZFS filesytem. The client is Solaris 9 U7. I can mount the filesytem just fine but I am unable to write to it. showmount -e shows my mount is set for everyone. the dfstab file has option rw set. So what gives? NFS export issue
Hello, I have a ZFS filesystem structure, which is basically like this: /foo /foo/bar /foo/baz all are from one pool and /foo does only contain the other directories/mounts (no other files) When I try to export /foo via dfstab, I can see the directories bar and baz, but these are empty. Can I only export via NFS each subdir on its own ? thanks in advance. Thomas

HA-NFS AND HA-ZFS
...time and the clients will not know the difference. I made sure that the zpool was available on both nodes of the cluster. I then created a new HAStoragePlus resource for the zpool. I updated my NFS resource to depend on both HAStoragePlus resources. I added the two test file systems to the current dfstab.nfs-rs file. I manually ran the shares and I was able to mount the new zfs file system. However, once the monitor ran it re-shared I guess and now the ZFS based filesystems are not available. I read that you are not to add the ZFS based file systems to the FileSystemMountPoints property. Any ideas...

zfs set sharenfs=on
I started sharing out zfs filesystems via NFS last week using sharenfs=on. That seems to work fine until I reboot. Turned out the NFS server wasn''t enabled - I had to enable nfs/server, nfs/lockmgr and nfs/status manually. This is a stock SXCR b49 (ZFS root) install - don''t think I''d changed anything much. Shouldn''t a ZFS share be permanently enabling NFS?

sharenfs=off, but still being shared?
...S SHARESMB ... rpool/export off name=export store/movies off name=Movies store/tv off name=TV I tested from a different server on my lan, and I can definitely mount and read from those via nfs too. /etc/dfs/dfstab has no entries. If I tell them to turn it off again, they disappear from the share list: -bash-3.2# zfs set sharenfs=off store/tv -bash-3.2# zfs set sharenfs=off store/movies -bash-3.2# zfs set sharenfs=off rpool/export -bash-3.2# dfshares -bash-3.2# Then re-share the one I actually want to nfs e...

Virtual IP Integration
Has there been any discussion here about the idea integrating a virtual IP into ZFS. It makes sense to me because of the integration of NFS and iSCSI with the sharenfs and shareiscsi properties. Since these are both dependent on an IP it would be pretty cool if there was also a virtual IP that would automatically move with the pool. Maybe something like "zfs set ip.nge0=x.x.x.x mypool"

Solaris 8/07 Zfs Raidz NFS dies during iozone test on client host
...ntroller (2) Intel Dual Port 1Gbit nics I have (5) 300GB disks in a Raidz1 with Zfs. I''ve created a couple of FS on this. /export/downloads /export/music /export/musicraw I''ve shared these out as well. First with ZFS ''zfs set sharenfs=on'' Then with /etc/dfs/dfstab. On a Solars 10 client host I would mount that Files System Vers=3. Then CD to that mountpoint and proceed to run iozone {from Blastwave} <root at vmserver2 /mnt/downloads> # iozone -Racb iozone.`hostname`.wks > iozone.data Sometime during the test I get a ''NFS server timsnas-n...

Force Group and NFS mounted dir problems
...Samba 2.0.3 and are having troubles making the "force group" config option work as expected. To make matters more interesting the file system being samba-shared is mounted from another unix server. To explain: Machine "marvin" (Solaris 2.7) exports /mnt/anthias using (/etc/dfs/dfstab): share -F nfs -o root=forty2.bne.marine.csiro.au:reef2.bne.marine.csiro.au, rw=forty2.bne.marine.csiro.au:reef2.bne.marine.csiro.au /mnt/anthias Machine forty2 (Solaris 2.5.1) mounts this as /mnt/anthias. Forty2 runs the samba server. I have defined the share as [anthias] path = /mnt/...

ZFS disables nfs/server on a host
I have an Ultra 10 client running Sol10 U3 that has a zfs pool set up on the extra space of the internal ide disk. There''s just the one fs and it is shared with the sharenfs property. When this system reboots nfs/server ends up getting disabled and this is the error from the SMF logs: [ Apr 16 08:41:22 Executing start method ("/lib/svc/method/nfs-server start") ] [ Apr 16

Corrupted Excel files, oplock_break(905) errors
Hi there everyone! I'm using Samba 2.0.5a-19990721 on a RedHat 6.0 machine with Linux kernel 2.2.12. My system generally works fine, however recently I've had some complaints about some files being corrupted. The latest and best-handled to enable a debugging happened at around the same time. Both clients were using Windows95 OSR2 machines with Excel 97 SP-2. Two users reported the problem

Supporting ~10K users on ZFS
OK, I know that there''s been some discussion on this before, but I''m not sure that any specific advice came out of it. What would the advice be for supporting a largish number of users (10,000 say) on a system that supports ZFS? We currently use vxfs and assign a user quota, and backups are done via Legato Networker. >From what little I currently understand, the general

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down... http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing comment: "If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually become ubiquitously implemented
