Fwd: DeviceKit-power patches
I forgot to cc you guys on the future evolution of the HAL support
(it's replacement in fact, called DeviceKit)
A mailing list dedicated to DeviceKit is under creation.
If some of you are interested in, just answer back.

DeviceKit-power
My UPS Powercom WOW-1000U does greatly work with NUT, but not
auto-cofigurable...
This UPS is not usb-hid ups, and works well with this settings in NUT:
[powercom]
desc = "powercom"
driver = powercom
port = "/dev/serial/by-id/usb-POWERCOM_CO.__LTD._USB_to_Serial-if00-port0"
type = IMP
lsusb -v fragment attached.
Unlike other UPSes, gnome-power-manager does

Announcing Dell UPS support
Dear NUT users and contributors,
I'm pleased to announce that, with commits r2119 (USB) and r2122
(serial), the new Dell UPS offering is supported.
This means that NUT 2.6.0 will have a full Dell UPS support.
In parallel, I've submitted this week end a patch for DeviceKit-power
adding Dell USB UPS:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/DeviceKit/DeviceKit-power/commit/?id=c289ef679161482ee157a743e62fe3efcfc1137b
This means that the next release of Linux distro will also support these units.
Note this support has been added to NUT upon Dell's request.
So a big thank to De...

Feedback and help in porting the NUT sysV init script to upstart
...xion cycles on optimizing NUT
integration wrt init (ex: no need to clean stop daemons upon standard
shutdown). feedback, comment and help welcome... I can also give some more
details of the problematic.
another point (possibly already addressed): you should also take a look at
the HAL replacement (DeviceKit) since it should (must?) somehow impact
upstart (at least through signaling), or improve it?!
I will soon post on the new dk mailing a proposition for the power
management. if you also have some feedback there...

Openups patch proposal

And it is written in the man page... that I do had read!

Openups patch proposal (KDE, etc.)
...013/11/09/kde-solid-namespace/
And this bug seems to show that "solid-hardware list" is talking to UPower for battery information: https://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2015/03/msg00554.html
Before UPower came along, we had a version of usbhid-ups which was a bridge between the UPS and DeviceKit Power. It was, unfortunately, an either-or proposition: you could have the UPS show up in the GUI, or you could have the traditional NUT upsmon/upsd/driver stack, and all of the network connectivity of the latter. That bridge code no longer exists.
However someone could probably write a NUT client...

Cleaning up branches
Maybe it is time to clean up the branches. There are several branches
there, that haven't been touched in years. I think we can put several
to rest now.
Best regards, Arjen

Put acpi/backlight code into kernel
...klight on nv50 cards for above 1
year, without any success
A lot of laptop (from mac, hp, samsung) doesn't have laptop_panel in hal, and
therefore no support for acpi/backlight..., and no entry in /proc/acpi/video
nor /sys/class/backlight
Kernel team is not reacting, hal team won't fix, devicekit need standardise
i/o...
I've tried nouveau, the acpi/backlight support works pretty well, but the
driver itself is unusable for lambda users, it needs some times...
So I'm asking if someone could put the backlight code in a kernel module, or
in the kernel itself, for people to have back...

PowerCOM HID PDC non-compliance
Alexey,
I posted this before, but never got a reply. So I'm reposting this again.
In the present HID PDC implementation by PowerCOM, expect problems
with the non-compliant implementation of the DelayBeforeShutdown and
DelayBeforeStartup pages.
Third party applications will expect that these follow the HID PDC
specifications if you name them like this (and break terribly in the
