/boot on a separate partition?
...e today have /boot on a separate partition, > > or do they (you) have it on the / partition ? > > > Separate partition, 100% of the time. Inside / (which is mostly always ext4), 100% of the time. :-) That said, I prefer virtual machines over multiboot environments, and I absolutely despise LVM --- that cursed thing is never getting on my drives. Never again, that is... HTH, :-) Marko

Re: BUG: Forum driving away experienced users
Trouble is if you split the list into newbies and non-newbies the people the other Alan despises so much won't think of themselves as newbies. As a relative newbie myself I find it hard to swallow some of the near-elitist attitude shown by some experts, calling someone who isn't as experienced as you a noob is just plain insulting. I hope when those people learn something new they do...

CentOS 6
I finally switched workstations, and am running into a lot of truly annoying details with CentOS 6, and the software with it. For one, I'm doing this by webmail, and this version of Firefox *insists* on putting what I'm typing in gray, rather than black. For another, I despise the new version of thunderbird, since it now shows the full subject, if I have what they used to call the preview pane... and then take six more lines to do it, which I can't make go away.[1] rxvt, which is my preferred terminal, comes up with about 6 pt type, and I'm trying to find out ho...

Is the X100P a WinModem?
...t it up as a cheap alternative to a commercial MeetMe bridge, as a for-fun project. I keep noticing the Wildcard FXO X100P sorta seems like a Winmodem. Winmodems are basically a sound card chip tied to a pots port, where the Winders driver takes on the MO/DEM functions in software. I've always despised them as a data communications device but the other uses of the cards do seem good. It would seem like this kind of board would be exactly what was needed to provide a FXO port, assuming it can do full duplex operations, which it should since data calls are full duplex.... The picture isn't q...

...i'd think it'd be the "pandoc" version, and i understand that to be closest to "multimarkdown", but gruber has said he "disagrees" with "almost every part" of multimarkdown's syntax additions... specifically, on 2008/03/14, gruber said: > I despise what you've done with Text::Markdown, > which is to more or less make it an alias for > MultiMarkdown, almost every part of which > I disagree with in terms of syntax additions. of course, on 2008/02/18, gruber also said: > I could give a rip about formal specificat...

Icecast2 / Ogg / oddcastDSP / Winamp2 Constant Prebuffering
Hrm, yes it does sound like a bug in WinAmp. Even if it does prebuffer, the length counter should be going beyond 0:01 since you've obviously been listening longer than that after the first second. =P (I don't think the counter resets after buffering, but I could be wrong.) Can you see if you can duplicate it by getting someone else to tune in to the 'cast with WinAmp?

Samba first time run
@RowlandPenny I stick to it. You are unpleasant. I don't want you to answer my posts anymore. Not here, or on StackExchange, like one or two months ago, where I was trying to avoid your answers. (I was happy, at the end of 2019, the last time I had to care about Samba, when Van Belle took care of me with kindness and efficiency (within a couple of days the problem was solved). You answered

I have been using it for years on thousands of production systems with no issues that could not be easily explained as myself or someone else doing...

cuesheets w/ PERFORMER & TITLE track info
...ds. David's summary is correct. To fully implement CDTEXT is not practical. To not fully implement CDTEXT will invariably leave a large segment of usages out. So the choice I made was to not do it at all. The analogous situation is with ID3. There is ID3 v1, which is widespread but widely despised because it's too limited, and ID3 v2, which is hugely complex. In fact no one has really gotten metadata right and I thought it is too big a problem to solve inside of FLAC. So for right now, until a real metadata solution comes along, the single-stream-per-CD method will need to rely on an...

_Streaming_ AAC to HTML5 player
We've been using Icecast KH for years now with great success. Thanks again Karl H! It's past time to ditch Flash! I'm probably a bit out of date on this issue. The last time I checked, no browser was able to directly play an AAC / MP4 / M4A stream from Icecast. They can play AAC _files_ but not _streams_. I see that there are now alternatives beyond Wowza and Red5. But my
