But occasionally I make large changes to the source disk, and the rsync update

What I really want is to tell rsync to desist the mirroring after a certain amount

into alignment.
I can and have done this easily with a shell script that kills the rsync after
a given amount of time. But this seems like an easy and useful feature to

Christoph - would a documented API wrapping dma_mask make sense?

A quiet Samba ??
Hello Family,
Our sysadmin at work demands that no one have any Samba projects
other than the single one on our network due to the "NOISE" that is
emitted by Samba.
[question]
Can I still use the current 2.2.2 with my little test setup and not
fall prey to the order to "cease and desist" Samba ?
It's one Solaris-8(Intel) and Win2000 and Win98, three total
machines.

[PATCH v7] pci: quirk to skip msi disable on shutdown

The handler causes an expensive exit to the hypervisor,
and the INTx lines are shared with other devices.
Seems silly to slow them down just so we can do something
that triggers the device bug. The bus master is disabled by that time,
if linux can just desist from touching MSI enable device won't
send either INTx (because MSI is on) or MSI
(because bus master is on) and all will be well.

I happen to setup WXOU's streaming server here at Oakland University a
few years ago. Unfortunately it was disabled when the RIAA sent out all
those desist orders a few years ago, and it was never brought back up.
In the case of WXOU, the RIAA situation could have been easily handled
with an authentication scheme that allowed university affiliates to
somehow authenticate to the stream.
My point is, that in many cases, the authorization and authent...

How to install R 2.2.0 Debian 'unstable' package in otherwise 'sarge' system
....]
E: This installation run will require temporarily removing the essential
package e2fsprogs due to a Conflicts/Pre-Depends loop. This is often bad,
but if you really want to do it, activate the APT::Force-LoopBreak option.
E: Internal Error, Could not early remove e2fsprogs
which scares me into desisting with this course of action.
(ii) apt-get install -t unstable r-base, but it replies that
r-base is already the newest version. Have I not invoked this command
correctly, or does the -t switch not do what I was thinking it did?
Thanks very much for any help,

php application inside rails public directory?
Hi all,
I need to install cerberus inside my rails app''s public directory... I
agree that the best method would be to put the whole php app in it''s own
subdomain, but for now (i''m just testing) that''s not possible...
What would be the way to do that?
thanks!

Re: CentOS and SL, together? -- GPL, LGPL, kernel and user ...

Not good if you're working in a company where people have installed
it. Which is why I appreciate projects like Debian, Fedora, CentOS,

Icecast2 and Ices2 on Pentium III with Debian 6.0
Hello.
On a PC Pentium III I had a audio server working properly with Icecast2
and Ices2, running on Debian 5.0 (Lenny).
Now I've upgraded to Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) and after a few seconds of
running everything correctly, successive cuts begin to occur in the
audio.
For Debian 6.0 I have used the same settings for Icecast2 and Ices2 I
used in Debian 5.0.
Increasing "burst" only managed

Do we care? Is this a performance path? I thought we were in a kexec
shutdown path.

It would also be silly to put special-purpose code in the PCI core
if there's a reasonable way to handle this in a driver.

YAPQ (Yet Another Patent Question)

patents covering nearly every permutation of perceptual coding.
Well, it seems Vorbis is already a far better codec than mpeg layer3, at
least to my ears.
Of course, FhG will never let such a thing exist for long. It threatens
their revenue sources. I expect FhG will eventually send cease-and-desist
letters, and if that doesnt work, they will file frivolous lawsuits.
I think it's time for serious research for prior art to defend against
possible FhG harassment and attacks. Does anyone have a list of FhG
patents?
