Samba and Active Directory Permissions
...have some tweaking to do, it is assigning user and group ids as I would expect it to. I can create a share ok via Samba or active directory users and computers with out a problem. However, once I create this share, and I mount it on a windows client, I can't do anything as far as setting or deligating permissions. When I look at the folder properties, it says the folder it owned by root on my linux server. It will not let me change the ownership to any other user. I get a error that says something to the effect that I don't have the rights to change the permissions. Has anyone had t...

SSL delegation difficulties
hey all, trying to get SSL cert deligation working based on http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetScalability. All of the commands run without any problems, however I''m still not getting it to work. One perplexing thing is openssl reports the cert is okay. # openssl verify -CAfile /var/lib/puppet/ssl/certs/ca.pem /var/lib/puppet/ssl/certs/test1.localdomain.pem

SOLVED: Re: SSL delegation difficulties
The problem was solved when we moved to an Apache+mongrel setup from the initial webrick setup. Seems that webrick doens''t handle the SSL certs correctly enough to get this type of setup working. .r'' 2008/6/3 RijilV <rijilv@gmail.com>: > hey all, trying to get SSL cert deligation working based on > http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetScalability.

external USB HDD exclusive for HVM domU?
Hi there, just a short question: Does someone know if it''s possible to use an USB HDD in one HVM domU? It doesn''t need to be the particular USB device, deligating the whole USB controller to this single domU wouldn''t hurt either. Also reconfiguration isn''t an issue, as - if it''s possible - USB devices would only be used by one domU. Thanks in advance! SOLVED dnscache in front of samba4 internal dns (was: Re: Samba internal DNS + 2nd DNS)
...tables -t nat -I PREROUTING --in-interface eth0 -p tcp -d [localIP] --destination-port 53 -j DNAT --to-destination [ip_dnscache_listens_on] More details in this bug report: http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8638 This allows us to have an instance of dnscache running in front of samba4 and deligating DNS. dnscache delegates DNS for the samba4 domain to the samba4 internal DNS. What this does for us is get resolving dns in front of samba4, doesn't required BIND, and doesn't rely upon the relatively new dns code in Samba4. It's a pity the Samba team didn't look ad djb DNS inste...

Samba 3.0, Windows 2k/XP and usrmgr.exe
Hi there I've just finished setting my first Samba PDC for 120ish users and so far so good, although its only been live for 2 days!! One problem I've come across (actually I had loads but the HOW-TO, Samba archive and google solved most of them) is with usrmgr. There is one XP client that I have installed the NT 4 Server Tools software on for the school IT coordinator (note the phrase
