R-devel Digest, Vol 34, Issue 5
actually, I can confirm now that gs AFPL 8.53 is the "culprit" here on #2,
copied below again (though it is not a bug but a feature, albeit one you
need to know about.) the -dSAFER switch, which appears in later versions of
AFPL gs, not only eliminates renamefile and deletefile (manpage), but
seemingly also allows only fonts in the GS_LIB path to be used

Samba + Windos XP/2k + Netbench Problem
Hi all,
there is a problem with the 'Default: nt smb support = yes' option in
smb.conf for at least Samba 2.2.3a and 2.2.4 (on FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE)
when using Netbench 7.0.2 on WXP or W2k clients.
If the client is set to run 2+ Netbench engines (to simulate 2+ real
clients) and 'nt smb support = yes', all but one engine fail pretty
quickly, usually during a movefile oder

file "time-to-live"
Hi everyone,
There is a way to make files being automatically deleted some time after
they have been created?
I know that, with some scripting wizardry i could achieve this, but i
wanna know if samba has this kind of feature.
I have a temp folder that users insist in use like a backup folder, so i
want to files to be deleted 24 hours after they have been created.
I cannot just delete

Issues Building WINE 1.3.25 and 1.3.26 on Aptosid AMD64
Hello, all:
Last week I purchased a new computer that had significantly more RAM than the 3GB my last system had, and as such I moved from the i386 version of Aptosid to the AMD64 version. My new system also has a dedicated video card instead of the integrated graphics my last one had, so I was anxious to get myself set up with Portal and Portal 2.
Upon installing debs for 1.3.25, I found that

[PATCH 0/9] elflink fixes
From: Matt Fleming <matt.fleming at intel.com>
Here are the patches that I've got queued up based on the very helpful
feedback I received from people testing Syslinux 5.00-pre9. Unless
anyone has any concerns these will make it into Syslinux 5.00-pre10.

VB Code to convert BMP to LSS for splash screens
The following code can be used to convert a 256 color BMP to LSS format for use as a SYSLINUX/ISOLINUX/PXELINUX Splash screen. The bitmap must be LESS than 640 pixels wide (bug) and only uses the first 16 colors. CorelDraw and PhotoShop are good for re-palletizing and dithering.

font inclusions in pdf files
I am stumbling into external font issues here and there. I presume using
external lucida fonts is fairly rare, so I am more likely to stumble onto
issues here. (of course, I often think I have stumbled onto bugs/features
that are not.) So, I hope I am not imposing by reporting the following.

Experiment on how to improve our temporary file handing.
Currently a power failure or other hard crash can cause lld leave a temporary
file around. The same is true for other llvm tools.
As an example, put a breakpoint in Writer.cpp:236 ("writeBuildId()") and
restart the run a few times. You will get
t.tmp43a735a t.tmp4deeabb t.tmp9bacdd3 t.tmpe4115c4 t.tmpeb01fff
The same would happen if there was a fatal error between the

Sweave resource leak: leftover temp files (PR#7998)
Harold, I've taken a closer look at your example and I'd call this an
Sweave bug. It creates tempfiles each time you run it, and doesn't
delete them at the end. For example:
> list.files(tempdir())
character(0)
> testfile <- system.file("Sweave", "Sweave-test-1.Rnw", package = "utils")
> Sweave(testfile, out="junk.tex")

Fileserver performance tests
Hi all,
i want to replace a bunch of Apple Xserves with Xraids and HFS+ (brr) by Sun x4200 with SAS-Jbods and ZFS. The application will be the Helios UB+ fileserver suite.
I installed the latest Solaris 10 on a x4200 with 8gig of ram and two Sun SAS controllers, attached two sas-jbods with 8 SATA-HDDs each und created a zfs pool as a raid 10 by doing something like the following:
