'Official' NT4-like domain decommission?
There are ''official'' plan (by Samba Team, but also by Microsoft) to officially ''decommission'' support for NT-like domains? Thanks. -- dott. 3 domains, full trust between all, move samba server join to other domain
...I have a Samba file server running that is member of a windows AD domain. Later I added 2 more domains with a full trust relationship between all 3. (all are Windows AD) Everything works perfectly, wbinfo -u/-g shows all users/groups from all 3 domains, and ACLs work perfectly. I now want to decommission 2 of the domains, and leave only 1 domain. Lets say they are: domain1old (to be decommissioned) domain2old (to be decommissioned and domain Samba server currently joined on) domain3new (domain to remain, where Samba server needs to be joined/moved) As stated, there is a full trust relation...

Decommissioning old PDC
I'm trying to decommission our PDC which is running on some older hardware and migrate it's functionality to one of our two currently operating BDCs for the domain. The three servers have nearly identical configurations with only differences in file and printer shares and a couple attributes like "wins support&qu...

Upgrading Samba
...> work. > > You will have to 'walk' up the versions, it may work if you go to > 4.8.3, then to 4.9.4, but you may have to go to 4.7.2 first. If I have a domain running (2) 4.7.x DC's and I build 2 new DC's with 4.9.latest, join the domain and make them DC's and then decommission the old DC's, is that expected to work? Dual Computer Names
Does anyone know if there is a way to setup a Samba server to respond to 2 different names on the same or different IP addresses? I currently have two servers with two different names. I would like to decommission the first server while still allowing users to access the second server with the same name they were using to access the first server. Proxying from one server to another
Hi All, I'm trying to find a software package to do the following sip proxy work: I've an A*k server A that needs to be decommissioned, from the USA, and replaced by server B, in the UK. Both servers are on public internet IPs. Whilst the client migration happens, I want to divert all the Register traffic from Server A to Server B to catch any clients still left out there. Unfortunately, the original Clients were configu...

g729 codec help
Hi, We added more g729 licenses today that we bought from digium on Friday. Since we had previously installed their licenses and had them running we just ran the register command along with the new key that was given to us. After we restarted asterisk NONE of the g729's worked even though if we do a show g729 it shows the new correct total licenses. In the licenses folder we see both license

...port for some other reasons anyways, it's as simple as just unpacking it on the builder and adding to the front of the PATH variable. I use this approach on my Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) builders, as a proper backport simply isn't worth the effort for my purposes, since they are going to be decommissioned rather soon anyways and it's working very nicely. -- Sincerely yours, Yury V. Updating Samba AD from 4.1 to latest stable
...s on it. What if I install a temporary Windows 2019/2016 server with the AD role and join it to the old Samba-4.1 AD and then transfer all AD roles to it. Next install a new Linux server with the latest Samba (4.12.3) and join it to the domain too. Transfer all roles from the Windows ADDC to it and decommission that server and add a second Linux ADDC to the domain to be redundant. Would/should that work and am I missing steps? Thanks in advance, Joop

Questions about adding a DC
...ays "If the other DCs are Samba DCs and were provisioned with --use-rfc2307, you Should add --option='idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes' to the join command" So does this mean that rfc2307 should not be used if the other DCs are MS DCs? Does the answer change if the ultimate goal is to decommission the MS DCs? In addition, https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory#Built-in_User_.26_Group_ID_Mappings states that "you must Create a hot-backup of the /usr/local/samba/private/idmap.ldb file on the existing DC:" and import into the new DC. NT4 Migration Question
A client has an existing NT4 domain with several NT4 servers. Two of the NT4 Servers function as a PDC and a BDC. We are installing Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro as a PDC with an LDAP backend, and decommissioning the NT4 PDC at the same time. So far, so good. We can also rebuild the old PDC hardware as a Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro BDC. Unfortunately however, the NT4 BDC cannot be removed from the network for another six months, as it hosts a vertical application key to the business and used every day by...

The LDC team is using Travis CI to test LDC against LLVM 3.5-3.9 and we depend on these APT repositories: Travis CI is using Ubuntu Precise. LLVM 3.8 is...

Upgrading from old 4.1 sernet-samba AD to source release with AD
...take place considering I'm going from the old sernet package to the source compiled version, what version should I be upgrading to from 4.1.x etc? Do I rather somehow install new DC's running the latest release, and then join them to the domain and then demote the old ones and then finally decommission them? Alternatively if I compile a similar 4.1.x source version onto the existing VM's and then upgrade through all the source versions one by one from there on all 5 of my VM's? EG: 4.1 to 4.2 to 4.3 to 4.4... etc? Any suggestions on this is hugely appreciated. Thank you Regards. N...

Windows 2003 AD (2003 level) Replacement
It's been well over a year since I tried doing this and, at that time, it was not a simple install. File replication didn't seem to work, some accounts didn't show up in the new server, and the internal DNS seemed a bit problematic. The goal was to decommission a 2003 AD server (2003 level) and replace it with Samba4. Exchange 2000 exists in this domain but not much else. I have occasionally checked to see if it has become a simple process of moving FSMO roles and demoting the 2003 AD server but it's not clear from the forum or the docs. Has i...

AD migration questions.
Hi, I have a client that is in the process of decommissioning a SBS 2008 server. They have moved email off of the server and shutdown Exchange. They would like to switch to a samba AD DC and separate file server. According to https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory I should be able to add a Samba DC to the do...

GPO Editor says "Access denied" for Group Policy Objects
.. we setup 2 new DCs replacing older DCs and joined them to the domain, then decommissioned the old DCs. I now discover that I cannot edit the GPO objects anymore. "sysvolcheck" shows no errors. I read through some documentation but it sounds outdated to me. Any hints where I would start looking? Who should normally be the owner of the sysvol directory itself? What I fi...

Samba Migration from 2.2.7a to 3.0.14a
...this list so please do not flame me if this is not an appropriate question. I would like to migrate from an old Server running Samba 2.2.7a as Domain controller to a new one running version 3.0.14a. The new server (with a new hostname) should be the DC in the future as the old server is to be decommissioned. Now I am looking a good HOWTO or similar document describing such a migration - any suggestions? Migrating to new hardware
I'm looking for confirmation that what I am about to do will work. My intent is to decommission the existing Samba PDC hardware and put in its place the new hardware. I intend on having the users see no difference, in terms of what they have/had and will continue to have available. Right now I will be copying everything from the /etc/samba directory into the same on the new server, movin...
