Upgrading SAMBA from 4.2.2 to 4.2.13
Hey everyone
Have a (relatively) old CentOS SAMBA4 Active Directory running version
4.2.2, time to upgrade to the latest in the 4.2 series.
As it's running as a VM on ESXI I have it backed up by VEEAM and I can take
a snapshot before making any changes.
Any major items to be aware of before upgrading to 4.2.13? Any reason I
should not perhaps be looking a bit further to the 4.4.x

rename Administrator account
Hi all,
Renaming the admin account in Windows server context is a popular measure to make the network more safe.
Can we do this also in Samba 4? Are there any negative consequences?
Met Vriendelijke Groet,
Kind Regards,

Jack in /usr/local/ means failure for asterisk
Hi,
I have been headbanging with asterisk and Jack for a while, decited to
ask other linuxists for an advice.
The problem is that Jack is compiled from source (0.118) in /usr/local/, but
menuselect says "XXX" for it (cannot enable it). I need jack...
Otherwise I will inotify Monitor WAVs, what is bad :`(
After installing jack from sources:

Winbind backend : rid is too much underappreciated

_My_ personal disadvantage with idmap_rid is, that you have to define
stuff like the shell on a per server and not on a per user base. You can
decite if _all_ users should have /bin/bash or alle /bin/false. RFC2307
allows you to centralized set

Some questions of heavy * deployment and stability.
I've reading this lists few months.
We are small company, that makes some system intregration, development and deployments in VoIP scene.
Completely under linux. Today i have 6 machines with asterisk, huge test base - including devices like AS5350, Audiocodes gateways,
ATAs, IP phones ...
Now is time to make a decition for including * in our future projects. Main goal for us is the Stability.

Samba Wiki change suggestion
On the "Bidirectional Rsync/Unison based SysVol replication workaround"
page. The title (as you can see) includes the word UNISON when in fact
the "Unison" program is NOT being used for this replication anymore. As
the instructions there actually use "Osync" then the word "UNISON"
should probably need to be replaced with "OSYNC". (I looked

OpenSSH auth in SAMBA4 LDAP
Hi,
I have some Ubuntu LTS servers running openssh server authenticating to
external openldap. I installed a new Ubuntu LTS server with Samba4 to
create a domain and is working very well. I managed to make a pfsense
firewall authenticate users in this Samba4 ldap. How to make openssh in
Ubuntu authenticate users in Samba4 ldap?

Permission denied but ok?...
Was just browsing web and tried to save some files on a samba share
and got:
permission denied 3 times in a row... (and now on 4th try, it worked).
The log for the past hour looks a bit odd... why so many module reloads?
wouldn't they load once?
Also I've never seen the "New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would
close all old resources."
Why would I get so many session

Custom kernel
The first time I installed xen there were two kernels, this time with 3.0.2,
there is only one kernel, everything works. I can boot my dom0 and my domU''s
using this one kernel but if I want to build a custom kernel for my domU''s but
I am not sure from what I read on how to go about it.
Will I end up with a new kernel other than my single kernel? Should I do the
kernel config in

Samba4, MS CAL and Windows Server as domain member
Hi everyone,
I have a licencing question : do one need to buy CAL for every user in a Samba4 domain when there is a Windows Server as a domain member, knowing that the Windows server will be accessed using SMB by Windows workstations?
As per http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch01.html and many other web sites, one of the main advantage of samba is that no user CALs are required. And I
