Steam Games - Flickering/Flashing Menu during Gameplay.
Hello. I recently installed Steam through Wine 1.0.0, but when I run DOD: Source, Half Life, DOD, or Deathmatch Classic, I experience the same problem. The game loads and runs fine, but the menu screen is flashing over the actual gameplay images every second. It's as if the menu screen is trying to stay on top of the game, but it's struggling to do so.
I am using Ubuntu 8.04, Wine 1.0.0 and I have 1...

Reducing the deleterious effects ofego related issues on the list
Bryan... NOBODY CARES how many times Chris is wrong.
NOBODY CARES what you prove on this point.
Whether Chris is right, wrong or stoopid is NOT proper fodder for this (CENTOS) list.
Chris being wrong is *strictly* a "Bryan Fixation".
Part of YOU growing up is YOU realizing that whether Chris is or is not
wrong is UNIMPORTANT to ANYTHING that you or anybody important
to you think is

I installed the driver that ubuntu offered me. When I downloaded and installed the latest "official" drivers from AMD site, it downgraded it, instead of upgrading it. I couldn't even run Normal Visual Effects because of it.
By the way, I successfully ran Half Life 2 Deathmatch (well with a lot of bugs). So the problem shouldn't be in performance, since cs doesn't even need opengl running. It runs in software mod too. But just to make it clear, I did run cs in opengl.

Counter-Strike Craches
Hey,
I have installed Ubuntu a few days ago, since my experience with Windows Vista has been horrible. I decided to run steam using wine, and I was also going to run Counter-Strike. So I installed wine first using the following command, "sudo apt-get install wine". Then downloaded steam and installed it. When I launched Steam, my friend's names were very hard to read. It's like

Too stupid to figure out shaping
...I''d dearly appreciate some help on this. Surely this is a nut that
someone has already cracked, but for the life of me all I can find on the
internet are how-to shape your own outbound traffic to your ISP so your P2P
traffic (the BANE of ISPs) doesn''t interfere with your Doom3 deathmatch.
Thanks in advance,
John Gorkos

Legions: Overdrive on Linux/Ubuntu with WINE
...some help getting Legions: Overdrive (http://www.legionsoverdrive.com/) with PlayOnLInux and WINE.
Legions: Overdrive is a sci-fi FPS game, Freedom of movement returns in this spiritual successor to Tribes. Travel by jetpack and ski over foreign landscapes, dodging grenades and shooting enemies in deathmatch mode. Sharpen your shooting accuracy or prepared to be gunned down. Legions: Overdrive is currently only available in Windows.
Download: http://www.legionsoverdrive.com/download/
The game is 151MBs and it has a Patcher on start-up, I have no idea what I'm doing so if someone could help me get...

L4D crashes reaching in-game, d3d_shader bug maybe?
...mismatched access semanti"...
I originally posted in Ubuntu forums so I wouldn't bother others here, but they referred me to these forums since it seems to be explicitly a Wine related problem.
I am using an original version of Left 4 Dead and Steam runs fine.
I also tried running HL2 Deathmatch with this version of Wine and it actually runs compared to v1.0 (in my experience) but the characters are deformed (polygons stretched beyond the map), maybe this co relates to L4D above?
I only mentioned HL2's problem as it may provide a solution someone already knows to the problem I'm h...

Some relevant information
Hello everyone:
* DNS does not have a "refresh rate". In DNS, the person running the
domain determines what the "refresh rate" (it's called TTL in DNS) for
their records is; for example, Google has a TTL of "once per hour" and
my domains (maradns.org, etc.) have a TTL of one day.
* As mentioned before, Scientific Linux 6.0 is out. What hasn't been

Gnome wine menu entry gone
Well for a long time now my wine menu entry in gnome has been gone. Most threads I read all say to fine the <deleted> tag in .config/menus/applications.menu but mine doesn't have it.
