[PATCH v5 00/12] Enable GPU switching on pre-retina MacBook Pro
Enable GPU switching on the pre-retina MacBook Pro (2008 - 2013), v5.
The main obstacle on these machines is that the panel mode in VBIOS
is bogus. Fortunately gmux can switch DDC independently from the
display, thereby allowing the inactive GPU to probe the panel's EDID.
In short, vga_switcheroo and apple-gmux are amended with hooks to
switch DDC, DRM core is amended with a drm_get_edid_switcheroo() helper,
and relevant drivers are amended to call that for LVDS outputs...

rsynch related question
Hello,
I had a question on rsynch'ing, please do help me on this,
I have scenario where,I need to synch the two softwares, where both
the software are across the network, on different cells( AFS cells).
For ex: first1 - /afs/tr/software , second1 - /afs/ddc/software
Both the softwares are same & fist1 cell will be constantly
updating and I need to synch this software to sencond1. In this scenario
what command I should use ?
I will appreciate your great help.
Thanks in advance
Thanks

[PATCH v5 07/12] drm/nouveau: Switch DDC when reading the EDID
...k Pro uses an LVDS panel and a gmux controller
to switch the panel between its two GPUs. The panel mode in VBIOS
is notoriously bogus on these machines.
Use drm_get_edid_switcheroo() in lieu of drm_get_edid() on LVDS
if the vga_switcheroo handler is capable of temporarily switching
the panel's DDC lines to the discrete GPU. This allows us to retrieve
the EDID if the panel is currently muxed to the integrated GPU.
Likewise, ask vga_switcheroo to switch DDC before probing LVDS
connectors.
This only enables EDID probing on the pre-retina MBP (2008 - 2013).
The retina MBP (2012 - present) uses...

able to retrieve EDID in the first place.)

Ignoring DDC settings on Xorg
...same result.
My investigations indicate that the monitor reports itself to be
"1440x900". It also supports 1600x1200 by squashing the pixels
together, so it also advertises support for that resolution, which
messes things up.
According to the documentation I have seen online, disabling DDC (using
NoDDC and DCC "off") and setting the correct modeline should work, but
it always reverts to 1440x900 (if I am lucky).
Any ideas on how to force it to the right resolution? It really is
driving me nuts not being able to use the monitor to the native
resolution.
Thanks

[PATCH v3 0/6] Enable gpu switching on the MacBook Pro
...MacBook Pro uses an LVDS panel and a gmux controller
to switch the panel between its two GPUs. The panel mode in VBIOS
is notoriously bogus on these machines and some models have no
VBIOS at all, so the inactive GPU cannot set up its LVDS output.
Extend vga_switcheroo to support switching only the DDC lines.
Introduce a drm_get_edid_switcheroo() helper which uses this feature.
Amend i915, nouveau and radeon to call it for LVDS connectors.
This only enables EDID probing on the pre-retina MBP (2008 - 2013),
and only under the condition that apple-gmux loads before the DRM
drivers. Later patches w...

[PATCH v2] drm/nouveau: Fix nouveau_connector_ddc_detect()
...break;
Since it's rather difficult to notice: the conditional in this loop is
actually:
nv_encoder = NULL, i < DRM_CONNECTOR_MAX_ENCODER
Meaning that all early breaks result in nv_encoder keeping it's value,
otherwise nv_encoder = NULL. Ugh.
Since this got dropped, nouveau_connector_ddc_detect() now returns an
encoder for every single connector, regardless of whether or not it's
detected:
[ 1780.056185] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: DRM: DDC responded, but no EDID for DP-2
So: fix this to ensure we only return an encoder if we actually found
one, and clean up the rest of the fun...

[PATCH v2 00/22] Enable gpu switching on the MacBook Pro
...ned
a workaround, whereas v2 contains a proper fix in a separate commit.
The long journey towards retina support:
The pixel clock required for retina resolution is not supported by LVDS
(which was used on pre-retinas), necessitating eDP instead. Problem is,
the gmux register which switches the DDC lines on pre-retinas doesn't
switch the AUX channel on retinas. Disassembling the OS X driver revealed
that the gmux in retina MBPs gained an additional register 0x7f which gets
written to when setting up the eDP configuration. There was some hope that
this might switch the AUX channel. Alas, w...
