Big send/receive hangs on 2009.06
...e script that starts the send and receive is zfs send -Rv "$srcsnap" | zfs recv -Fudv "$BUPPOOL/$HOSTNAME/$FS" And the -v causes the start and stop of each incremental stream to be announced of course. KDB+DDB make interrupt storm on MSI motherboards go away it seems
I admit I was scepticle of this suggestion - but it actually seems to have worked. COmpiling a straight GENERIC kernel with KDB and DDB included do seem to have made my irq22 interrupt storms go away. Certainly I have spent some time trying to provoke the problem and not managed to make it read it's ugly head again. The thing is though, this doen't make me particularly happy - as I am sure that KDB and DDB are not supposed...

USB detach/attach hangs with 7.0-RELEASE and 7.1-PRERELEASE
Hi, I've noticed some general instability with plugging in or removing USB devices with FreeBSD 7.x, even when the devices are not actively in use. I had this happen with umass and ucom devices 3 times today. The machine hangs solid, there are no obvious signs of a panic or trap to DDB. I can't provide backtraces unfortunately -- these hangs happen on both my laptop and desktop, and I usually have X running -- if I had more specific information, I'd open a PR. Again, there seems to be no reason why this should happen, the devices are off-the-shelf consumer items know...

fsck_ufs locked in snaplk
Colleagues, one of my servers had to be rebooted uncleanly and then I have backgrounded fsck locked for more than an our in snaplk: 742 root 1 -4 4 1320K 688K snaplk 0:02 0.00% fsck_ufs File system in question is 200G gmirror on SATA. Usually making a snapshot (e.g., for making dumps) consumes 3-4 minutes for that fs, so it seems to me that filesystem is in a deadlock. Any

...cript, reading the man pages, and looking at the ports using netstat -l). However, I can connect using -t nfs in the mount, and -t nfs4 fails. I don't believe this is a firewall issue, internal IPs are fully open to each other according to an early rule in iptables. $ sudo mount host03:/home/ddb /mnt/ddb -t nfs4 -o rw,hard, intr mount: permission denied but $ sudo mount host03:/home/ddb /mnt/ddb -t nfs -o rw,hard, intr $ I'm not sure I especially care about NFS V4 (this is to share the programmers' home directories, so it's easy to work on any of the production systems; it won...

Strange Panic During Reboot
I'm getting the following panic during shutdown of a 6.1-PRERELEASE system cvsupped yesterday. Strangely enabling DDB in the kernel "fixes" the problem. The computer is an old P120 (which I should probably replace). It occurs every time when DDB is disabled but when DDB is enabled, it does not panic. All buffers synced. Uptime: 19m16s (da0:ahc0:0:0:0): SYNCHRONIZE CACHE. CDB: 35 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 (d...

Problems with crashing IBM X3630 M3/ZFS
...8 16 core clients, each doing IO intensive tasks connected to it via a Procurve and the onboard igb0 interface. Mostly network reads, typically 10MB read per MB written. When the machine locks under load, none of the consoles respond, nor can I reach the machine via ethernet. I can break into DDB via the serial over lan interface, and am running a debug/witness kernel at the moment (I was running GENERIC previously). During the boot sequence, witness tosses me into DDB ~10 times before I get a login prompt. Prior to this machine acting up, it had multiple 802.1q vlans, and ran 9K packe...

Deadlock with ATA disk on FreeBSD 4.8 Stable
...a deadlock with a quite new ATA 120GB disk. The disk worked good for about 3 weeks, but now we have a strange problem. There seems to be one defective file on the disk. fsck doesn't find it, and if I do a cat file > /dev/null The machine locks completly. Serial console is dead, no remote DDB via ALTBREAK possible anymore, no panic message, just freezed. The evil began after we installed this ATA disk. It only happens for one file on this disk, the other 10000 files are fine. Do you have a idea why break into the debugger doesn't work anymore ? Even if we have a hard-error on the...

7.0-stable: a hung process - scheduler bug?
Hello! I was trying to build OpenOffice using all of my 4 CPUs. To be able to do other work on the machine comfortably, I ran the build under nice, and assigned real-time priority to the two Xorg processes. The build started at about 23:10 last night, and hung at 23:46. The procstat output for the make's process group is: PID PPID PGID SID TSID THR LOGIN WCHAN EMUL

FreeBSD 4.9 RC1 (more bad news)
A few hours ago I downloaded .../i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.9-RC1-i386-disc1.iso and made kern/mfsroot floppies from it. If I enable my ICH5R SATA controller in "native" mode, the 4.9-RC1 GENERIC kernel hangs solidly (only the system reset button can unwedge it) during device configuration. The last line of bootstrap monologue written by the kernel is: plip0" <PLIP network

NetBSD XEN port
I''m not on XEN devel, nor the Netbsd devel lists, so I''d appreciate it if someone can forward this to the appropriate place. On Netbsd 5.1, if you turn off DDB in the kernel config file, XEN domain0 will not build due to an unresolved symbol, cpu_Debugger. The fix is pretty trivial: (sorry, I didn''t include a diff) on line 925 of sys/arch/amd64/amd64/locore.S, change from #ifdef XEN /* XXX debug code */ to #if defined(XEN) && defin...

Crazy "interrupt storm detected" on atapic0
Hi all, I have had this problem since day 1 on my new server. It has run since November 15th 2008, and serve approx. 10 GB worth of web traffic per month for the main site and then some 40 domains with mail and small web pages. (hence - it's NOT that busy yet) I started with 7.1-RELEASE-pX since I didn't have problems straight off - but it didn't last long. After a few days of

kvm_open: kvm_nlist: No such file or directory
A few weeks ago I did a source upgrade from 6.2 to 7-STABLE. I didn't "make delete-old" so a bunch of old libraries and such were left lying around causing problems when I rebuilt all my ports. I'd read about some recent improvements to DDB and SCHED_ULE in 7-STABLE, and it's a miserable snowy weekend in Seattle right now, so I decided I'd take this opportunity to update my system to the latest 7-STABLE and get rid of those old libraries properly this time. Now sysutils/wmmemmon and sysutils/wmcpuload stopped working. Both...

ZFS deadlock
...mem after some hardware problems I've been runnig at those lows (1G total is kindof tight with zfs..) Well, just wanted to report... The box is not totally dead yet, ie I can still do Ctrl-T on console, but thats it.. I don't really know what more I can do so.. I don't have KDB/DDB. I'll wait another hour or so before I hard reboot it, unless it "unlocks" or if anyone have any suggestions. Thanks -- Johan Str?m Stromnet johan@stromnet.se http://www.stromnet.se/
