Darker markers for symbols in lattice
In lattice, using the command trellis.par.get for superpose.symbol, plot, symbol and/or dot.symbol shows that we can specify alpha, cex, col, fill (for superpose.symbol and plot.symbol), font, and pch. Trial and error shows that the font affects letters but not pch=1 or pch=3 (open circles and plus signs.) I want to use open circles and plus signs, keep the colors and cex I've specified but

Getting rid of borders on semi-transparent plotting symbols
R version 2.7.0 RC (2008-04-20 r45403) When using semi-transparent filled plotting symbols, the border of the symbol has a different (darker) colour than the interior: plot(0, 0, pch=19, col="#FF000022") (Saving this as a PDF and looking at it magnified may make it easier to see.) This is pretty annoying, since when plotting partially overlapping points, the border colour dominates, making the colour of overlapping points...

Correlation Mapping
On the cover of Zivot and Wang's Modeling Financial Time Series with S Plus, there is a correlation plot that seems to indicate the strength of correlation with color-coded squares, so that more highly correlated stocks appear darker red. If anybody out there is familiar with the book or understands what I am talking about, I am curious as to whether or not there is a similar function in R and how I can call it up. Thank you. jdr

Shared behavior and_raise problem, and site aestetics
...s? If I do the following instead: foo.should_receive(:bar).and_return { raise } everything seems to work. I have been supplying no arguments to and_raise, by the way. Also, you may want to make the background in the code examples on the home page a little lighter. I am hardly able to read the darker-colored bits. Thanks. -Chris

colouring a tree
...ot; Hierarchical cluster analysis ") I need to change the tip.color into something else, but what?Even better would be if someone could help me changing the colours given according to the depth of the sample (according to how high a number I have given the samples in row.names), I mean getting darker as the samples get deeper etc.. Is there an easy way doing this? Thank you so much in advance, all help appreciated. If you do the rapid fires again, after it catches up it will fade the last time then switch to a faint shade of yellow, but this time it will be darker yellow then the last time. If you do the multiple fire thing a few more times, each time you stop it will get a bit darker still. This was happening in both Firefox and IE. Does anyone have any experience with this? Maps and plotting
...s that are sampled on any given day. What I would like to do is create a map of the facility with the sample points (and point labels) and when we have out of specification results, place a transparent dot over the area on the map. As the number of OOS results builds up, I envision the dot getting darker. Are there any packages out there that can aid me in doing this? color scale mapped to B/W
...'OK', yellow represents 'warning' and red represents 'danger'. Using these particular color names, in B/W, red is darkest and yellow is lightest. I'd like to find color designations to replace yellow and green so that when printed in B/W, the yellowish color appears darker than the greenish one. Is there some tool/code I can use to find these? i.e., something to display a grid of color swatches with color codes/names I can look at in color and B/W to decide? t hanks, -- Michael Friendly Email: friendly AT yorku DOT ca Professor, Psychology Dept. Own Color Palette

The problem is that the rainbow-palette included in R does not answer this purpose. I need a darker blue, no turquoise, relatively less green, more yellow and more red. Haw can I adjust the rainbow? Alternatively: How can I generate my own palette with at least 100 colors with smooth transitions?<o:p></o:p> Can anybody help me?<o:p></o:p> Thanks a lot<o:p></o:p&...

Bold plot axis
...om corner to corner (actually all the way around) and tick marks and the accompanying values for the ticks bold. In the default values, it's hard to see the plot when I put it into a powerpoint. I've got the points and line and labels, but not the square and ticks of the plot itself any darker or bolder. If there are other suggestions for making it more visible, I'd welcome those too. plotting segments only and in color
...ints? 2) I'd like only to have points where the range (Xa-Xb) = 0, because otherwise nothing would be displayed in such cases. 3) How can I color (grey scale) the interval-segments according to their range? Lets say the wider the range (Xa-Xb) the brighter (the more white)and the narrower the darker (more black)? 4) Is there a special R-package or function besides for plotting interval, or ranging data? need palette of topographic colors similar to topo.colors()
...c colors that would satisfy these two requirements: - the pallete must be 'anchored' at 0 (just like on a map), with light blue/lawn green corresponding to data values close to 0 (dark blue to light blue for negative values, green-yellow-brown for positive values) - the brown must get darker for higher positive values. topo.colors() fails both requirements and AFAICS lacks any options to control its behavior. #---unsatisfactory topo.colors() behavior topoclr <- function(tgt) { clr <- topo.colors(length(tgt)) clr <- clr[round(rank(tgt),0)] plot(tgt,pch=15,col=clr)...

How to start a script to complete configuration
Hi, We have a virtual environment based on XenServer. In this environment I defined a template for CentOS 7 servers. I would like to start a script a boot time to complete the configuration of new VMs based on this template. How can I have a script started before any login prompt to ask question to the user to complete the configuration such as hostname, IP address, etc? Thanks, Bernard

help with levelplot()
...itude 1. By using a loop and plotting these in succession, it will have the appearance of a movie or animation. I believe I know how to do this part, but I am having trouble working with the colors. I want to use a range of colors starting with light blue (denoting zero) and progressively getting darker as the amplitude gets closer to 1 (red color). Does anyone know a way to do this? Making shadowed plot of individual profile from Longitudinal data
Dear R-help,   I have a longitudinal dataset with about 5,000 subjects. To avoid overly cluttered plot of the individual profile, I want the plot to be shadowed and to randomly select say 100 subjects which will be depicted using darker lines on the plot.   Kindly guide me through on how to do this in R.   regards John  [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Patterned shading in ggplot
...nts out well in black and white using ggplot2. I have the following example set up nicely, but want to shade the red bars in one pattern and the blue in another so they print out clearly. I tried changing colours to 1 light, 1 dark, but then the overlapping colour looks virtually identical to the darker one. I noted the option density in barplot, but couldn't get this to work in ggplot. I could just replot this as density plots using kernel smoothing, but quite like this format for the data I have. Any help much appreciated. library(ggplot2) xy<-data.frame(x=c(rnorm(1000), rnorm(1000,2,...
