[OT] Tidy of Wiki Sidebar
I have been tidying up bits of the Wiki. This one is not clear cut, so I decided to seek advice. Also, I wasn't sure where to post this question, so defaulted to ogg-dev. Should Speex and CMML be removed from the Wiki Sidebar at: https://wiki.xiph.org/MediaWiki:Sidebar ? Many thanks, Martin -- Martin J Leese E-mail: martin.leese stanfordalumni.org Web:

IETF Video codec Birds of a Feather session. Please participate. **TODAY**
...foster discussion and gauge the current level of interest in creating a working group and doing work in this area. There will be presentations on WG goals and some technical presentations including a VPNext presentation and presentations on some of the video coding tools developed as a part of the Daala research (http://xiph.org/daala/). The agenda for the session is at: https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/85/agenda/videocodec/ Because this is just the start of the effort there is not too much background to be familiar with before participating but it may be useful to read the proposed charter...

NHW codec - progress
...prove compression by 1-2%, which will put my scheme on the same level as ZPAQ -method 5! I haven't made much research, but I would also need better YUV420 2x2 up/down-sampling functions (mines are too basic and not really good). If you would know good ones, do not hesitate to contact me.Maybe a Daala developer could point me to the ones used for Daala still image? With all this, I think I could make a 0.1.4 version, but I don't know when it will be released. Cheers, Raphael -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... NHW codec
Hello, I don't have advanced on the NHW codec, but now, as a lot of people, I am following the AOMedia AV1 codec.Just a (late) update of my previous post, there won't be problem in AOM AV1 with the CABAC scheme, as the codec will use Daala's multi-symbol entropy coder and/or ANS.That's great! I have even read on the wiki page, that AV1 will use Daala's PVQ as quantization scheme.Wow. Also as a consequence, there are fewer interest now in the NHW codec, but I would still like to maintain it as an open-source and royalty-f...

NHW codec - progress 2
...t and give it to low contrast.I think in a first time, I will only use residual coding for the low contrast area errors.I will try to do this next month if I can find time, and will let you know what it gives. I am also aware that with all this, it will be very very difficult to beat HEVC, VP9/10, Daala. The entropy coding is certainly the most interesting part of my codec. Standardization FLAC through IETF
...or an IETF working group for standardizing specifications for FFV1 and Matroska, both of which are open-source but without formal standardized specifications. We chose to bring this to the IETF because of relevant past/ongoing work in the IETF(including the netvc working group's Thor codec and Daala, and the Codec working group 's Opus audio codec) and because of the IETF's commitment to open source standards. Input from the IETF community encouraged us to expand our initial proposal from FFV1 and Matroska to include FLAC, and create instead a lossless codec working group. We're...

NHW Image codec
...in is around 50-100octets, I would have expected more..., but it is getting harder to save bits for this part.Update at http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ . Now the discussions on video compression will be certainly focused on the NETVC project, and that's right that beside professional codecs like Daala, Thor, and certainly Google VP9/10, (and others...), the NHW codec has almost no chance to be selected. But if some few parts could be selected (for test), that would be just great. The main interesting parts of the codec are: a new fast wavelet transform, a multistage residual coding, and 3 new entr...

libtheora-1.1.1 and SDL2 support.
Are there any plans to implement SDL2 support for libtheora? I've searched the internet for patches and I couldn't really find anything. I modified some of the files in libtheora-1.1.1 to use the SDL2 library instead of the SDL library. I'm pretty sure I did it wrong though. It compiles successfully. I was hoping someone else had done something similarly so I could compare my

NHW Project - lower quality settings
Hello, I have re-tested -l4 high compression setting and it's clear that it lacks of precision on degraded, rather blurred images. So I don't know if it is a good idea to base the other lower quality settings (-l5,-l6,...) on -l4 setting.I have tested the NHW codec against x265, x264, Daala, WebP, Rududu, DLI and it's clear that at high compression these very good codecs have more precision. But they also tend to blur/decrease neatness-sharpness of image where the NHW codec would enhance image neatness/sharpness.But that's right that on degraded, blurred images where there is n...

NHW Image codec
Hello, Ok, and that's too many work to review a source code.In my codec, I have 3 compression schemes, I think 2 are not patented, but the third... I don't know. For the rest, I think my codec is patent-free (I don't use SPIHT,EZW,zerotree methods), even the wavelet transform is new and don't use the lifting scheme nor the convolution product. Else, if you found time to review the
