R-alpha: R interaction within ESS-4.9-b11: two small issues
1) I installed the latest ESS (Emacs Speaks Statistics) beta release
on a machine running Linux. Since there is no S-PLUS product for
Linux, I set the ess-site.el file for R, xlisp-stat, and S version 4.
I.e.,

R-alpha: Can we "require" 1) GNU make, 2) Perl -- for help "compiling"?
Another request for comments
(the last one on file extensions had not too many 'voters' ...)
Both questions have to do with improving the 'man' file format,
conventions, .. AND building the 'help', 'latex' and 'html' files from the
man sources.
Before you read on..
Kurt Hornik has suggested that in any case, the compiled
'help', 'html'

mysql backend and 3.0.13
Here are some additional informations to the earlier thread
"MYSQL - Was Functional till Update to 3.13".
It stopped working somewhere between 3.0.12rc1 and 3.0.13.
When adding with pdbedit like:
pdbedit -a fuman -f "full name"
and then after the passwd prompt, it always fails and says
"Username not found!"
After revert back to 2.0.12rc1 again, it correctly prints
