MPEG DASH
Hi Thomas, > I wrote solid IPR evaluation for a reason. It might be helpful to ask bitmovin as a starting point, they have released the reference code under LGPL: http://www.bitmovin.net/libdash.html The LGPL preamble says: "we insist that any patent license obtained for a version of the library must be consistent with the full freedom of use specified in this license."

More newbie questions.. Calling out to CGI, Reusing Responses, Multi-thread..
What I''m building is essentially a filter. On certain URIs, Mongrel will handle the request completely. On other URIs, I''d like to pass that responsibility off to an external CGI process (be it Rails''s dispatch.cgi, or otherwise). How do I go about that? Second, I''m finding that in several of my handlers I''d like to reuse a response. However, I

Close to a 4.2 release; experimenting with Ragel alternatives
Hi Jason ! Hmmm, this is good and bad news: Good: ruby hooks means I could use a single pass to parse textile customizations in zena instead of running two parsers: nice. Bad: I have just switched to ragel for QueryBuilder to parse pseudo sql and I fear your shortcomings (if that''s an english phrase). Could you describe more precisely what you are missing with ragel ? I''m

Automatically Cleaning Kerberos Credential Cache Files
I'm in a situation here at work where I'm trying to support a mixed network of OS X and RHEL desktop machines with a Postfix/Dovecot combination. - user account information is stored in LDAP - user credentials are in MIT Kerberos - server is running RHEL 6/Dovecot 2.0.9/Postfix 2.6.6 I am currently using the PAM passdb module to authenticate my users (I began to have trouble

You shouldn't need to, no. I'm guessing you've got a cruddy version installed from somewhere else, else the yum install would have just worked, but I'm just guessing as you've not posted

This isn't something you have to "feel", it's something you could _measure_? far more precisely than anyone could hope to hear. To whatever

Firefox 78 under CentOS 6 -- no sound?
Akemi Yagi <amyagi at gmail.com> wrote: > This issue? > > https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=17767 This is a huge bug! Using Firefox to watch videos is a basic activity. The bug with grub2 a few months ago was even more serious: it made systems unbootable. It's discomfiting to see two major bugs so close to each other. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

MPEG DASH
Daniel, I won't make any points regarding DASH's fit with Icecast, but I wanted to address your statement that there is no purpose for adaptive streaming. Cell phone connections are fairly terrible and inconsistent. Even if you have a solid signal on a 4G technology, you could walk around a corner and it will disappear. What works at 3mbit/s one minute might be 10kbit/s the next.

iconnect
Hi, I was able to connect asterisk to iconnect's service. It took me almost two hours, but it's because I was having NAT trouble. I finally discovered that you can set the iconnect host to natrealy.deltathree.com to make it work. (for those of you who, like me, don't have the time to search the archive I'll provide a working sample in a minute) My problem was sound

Xen boots to blank screen
It seems like there are several messages in the archive and in various forums about this problem, but I do not see a clear course of action for how to solve it. I am relatively new to Linux, compounding my problem. I just built a new machine for the express purpose of running Xen so my girlfriend and I could experiment and learn about different Linux distros. I am running on an Intel DG35EC

This is another edition of Rails Core Weekly, affectionately known as RCW. Rails Core Weekly summarizes the rails-core mailing list, a list dedicated to Ruby on Rails internals and its development. RCW is

What's up with the Manager Interface?!?!
The Asterisk Manager Interface is driving me nuts. Whoever wrote it should be drawn and quartered. Sometimes the data comes back separated by \r\n, and sometimes it's separated by \n. The whole thing is completely inconsistent, and trying to write any kind of API for it is -GHASTLY- Doug.

Job market Rails, Java, C++, etc
I have been sending out my resume to whatever Rails jobs I can find. There is a limitied supply unless you want to relocate. It seems like the Rails stuff out there gets alot of applicants, though I am not sure if they tend to be locals, very experienced etc. I have also been applying for C++, Java, and Perl jobs. I have alot of background in C++, but am a little rusty. I have done some Java, but
