IAX Inbound Sound Quality
I have a couple of DID's through VP Connect and have been having sound
quality issues on incoming calls. During the call, the calling parties
voice sometimes sound like it is crackling, in other words it is not
very crisp. I would liken it to listening to a radio with a blown
speaker. This sound defect comes and goes throughout the call. The
other person is always audible but it just isn't as crisp and clear as
when I make outgoing calls over IAX. The other party does not hear any
audio defects.
Anybody have an...

Re ad in a file - produce independent vectors
Is there a way of reading in a file in a way that each line becomes a vector:
for example:
meals.txt
breakfast bacon eggs sausage
lunch sandwich apple marsbar crisps
dinner chicken rice custard pie
I want to read in this file and end up with 3 different vectors, one called
breakfast which contains "bacon", "eggs", sausage" One called lunch with
"sandwich", "apple"... etc
So is there a way to do this wi...

How to create distortion, echo, and chopping sound in a SIP trunk?
Hi everyone,
How can I introduce some distortion, echo, chopping sound and all other bad
quality things that can happen to a SIP trunk? I have plenty of bandwidth
and crisp clear lines so the only thing that I can think of is to limit
bandwidth but even that requires quite some scripting work.
Is there any easy way to simulate a distorted SIP line temporarily for
testing?
I am appreciate experienced inputs.
Thanks

...Has anybody seen this before and does anybody have any ideas on what to
do to fix things. Is this an Outlook problem or a dovecot problem? I

I need to get this system running in production very soon.

i have done further testing, and even at constant bitrates, wma is far
superior, from an "overall listening experience" point of view.
it seems that:
speex maintains the crispness/treble of the recording, but with the
cost of computer-ish background noise, like turning into russian
radio stations on the am band, if you get my drift. ess sounds are
particularily fragile to this.
wma removes all high-freq/treble of the voice, and makes it "round"

Specing with Subdomains as Account Keys
How do you go about implementing and rspecing subdomains as account
keys? I''m sure that this must be an issues for others as well.
So I have an app using subdomains as account keys. The Application
Controller sets up @current_company in a before filter. Everything is
done within the context of the @current_company.

Re-assigning vector elements based on their initial values.
..."v.new" or I get an error.
>v.new <-v
then I have to loop through all of the elements!

v[i]}

[1] 5.0 5.0 -1.5 -1.5 7.0 9.0 10.0
This works but seems labored given the previous crisp vector operations.

exporting high quality graphics from R in Mac OSX
Hi there
The default option for saving graphics from R (1.9.1) on my Mac is as a
pdf file. If I open the file in Acrobat reader it looks really good and
crisp, and is obviously saved as vector graphics, since I can zoom in
as much as I like and it continues to look really nice. If I import it
into MS Word (from office 2000), or Textedit, however, it imports it as
a bitmap and unless I save it as a pretty big image and then shrink it
in size by about...

Dual-screen compiz mostly working
...appear replaced with the
partially transparent cube. I haven't quite pinned down what causes this
but it does very rarely also occur on single-screen setup. Opening more
applications seems to aggravate it occurring, and so does the Reflection
plugin.
- my fonts are not nearly as clean and crisp under compiz as they are
under metacity. It's like the fonts are thick and fuzzy under compiz.
(I'm sure there's a correct terminology for that but i'm no expert).
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Postscript resolution
...e="foo.eps",...)], run
my plotting commands, and close the device as suggested [dev.off()].
However, when I open the eps files in a postscript viewer such as the
gimp, the resolution of the postscript images is *really* bad, very
"blocky" and "chunky", without the crisp lines and text that I
expected. I seem to remember that specifying the resolution of the
image to be written to the eps file somewhere gets around this.
Suggestions?
Am running R 1.3.0 on a Mandrake 8.0 system.

mtext problem - grainy and massive file size
...ve no idea why
this has just started happening. The only thing I've done lately is install
the new version of GIMP and run the script to change the std dpi in x11.
I'm using the quartz device though so this shouldn't be affected?? I can
use the outer=F argument and the text turns out crisp as before, but as soon
as I put it out of the margin it goes funny. If I plot the pairs plot
without any mtext() it's a nice crisp image and a small file size. Weird.
Here is my code

locfit: max number of predictors?
....g.,
</quote>
Looking in the locfit documentation (e.g.
http://www.stats.bris.ac.uk/R/web/packages/locfit/locfit.pdf) I can't see an
upper limit on the number of predictors; if it is 5 I'm getting close in one
of my applications.
Can anyone confirm or deny the existence of a 'crisp' upper limit on the
number of predictors in locfit?
If it is 5, or thereabouts, can anyone suggest an alternative which can
handle a few more? (I'm using it for multidimensional interpolation).
Best regards,
Keith Jewell
