Mounting directories below share level
>From my investigations, and searching the archives, it seems that smbfs can only mount shares, and not directories under the share i.e. smbmount //host/share /mnt works smbmount //host/share/directory /mnt doesn't work Our W2K3 server has user home directories in a tree where there are no user rights to the next node up the tree (level1), which is the directory on the share, i.e.

Specifying an appropriate error term in a hierarchical regression
Hi all -- So I'm working through my statistics homework again, and trying to reproduce the examples in the book (Kirk's _Experimental Design_, third edition) in R. This is a completely randomized hierarchical design (CRH-28(A)). The B factor is completely nested within the A factor. Pages 480-482, for those playing along at home. I can use: summary(aov(value ~ a + Error(b), data = ex)); to get the correct F value for the main effect of A. I can use summary(aov(value ~ b, data = ex)); to get the cor...

Recovery from Domain/WINS Outage - Didn't work well
We're using Samba 2.2.5 and 2.2.7 in SECURITY=DOMAIN mode. This morning we lost contact with our PDC, and for about 2 hours, users were unable to logon. After chasing this down, we determined that we were also unable to contact the WINS server defined in smb.conf. Our backup WINS server was available, but it seems Samba only supports one WINS server in smb.conf, so this didn't help

FW: samba woes
All, I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

Is NFSv4 dead ? Samba report from the SNIA SDC conference.
Chris Hertel just wrote up a new Samba Team blog entry about the SNIA SDC conference here: http://samba.org/samba/news/developers/2011-snia-sdc-report.html It's a great read for people who weren't able to make it ! Ping him at crh at samba.org if you have any questions about it. Cheers, Jeremy.

Session setup and authentication are fairly well described in CRH's book: http://www.ubiqx.org/cifs/SMB.html#SMB.8 When we are using extended security, there are multiple legs to the session setup part of this problem. As the client sends the first of the 4 packets in this system ('negotiate'), we should enclose a vuid 'cookie' with the ...

[OT but please read] ORBS blacklisting ns1.samba.org
Some lists and emails are distributed via ns1.samba.org. For those of you that use ORBS, you'll find it is blacklisted now. There is no mention of it on the website and it doesn't return a positive when you enter it for testing but it has slipped into the ORBS blacklist somewhere. Samba.org admins may wish to force all ns1 outbound email via another netblock, bringing it up to ORBS only

NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD with multiple concurrent connects from same IP Address.
We are having a problem with SAMBA v 3.0.13 on Linux where a windows client (single IP address) makes multiple connections at the same time (different processes) to copy files onto our SAMBA server. As many as 20 simultaneous connections/file transfers may be occurring from the same client IP address. Some of the files succeed, and some fail. The windows client reports that the directory does
