Swap
I know this is more of a general unix question, but the thread about the
last kernel update, and memory usage got me to looking and thinking.
Given a system with 2 Gb of memory, and at peak usage, top reports
considerably less than the 2 gig amount in use, as well as system
monitoring that never shows all available memory used, what would happen
if you just turned swap off, and let memory

Testing for 1.2beta2
Hi everyone,
I'm planning on releasing Speex 1.2beta2 in the next few days. I'd
appreciate if everyone could try and test the current svn to make sure
no bug crept in for your favourite plarform/application.
Cheers,

Running specs in reverse
There is an option "--reverse" to run examples in the reverse order
which is good for detecting inter-dependencies between examples.
Is it feasible for rspec to automatically switch between "forward" and
"reverse" order each time a spec is run?
My goal is to detect inter-dependencies sooner than later...
Thanks
Alvin.

High load/corrupted indexes after moving mailboxes?
Hello,
we're experiencing an odd issue after combining two vDisks used for mail
storage into one big new LVM. We've done this in the past successfully and
didn't experience a lot of problems. We
stopped all services (dovecot/postfix) to ensure that mailbox contents
(Maildir)
will not be changed, rsynch'ed the mail to the new disks and restarted
everything.
When we restarted

autoheader failing?
(btw, after mangling all the autoconfiscations to use config.h, autoheader
works for me...)

IAX Call token revisited
I just finished a fresh install of 1.8.3.2 at home using the packages
Digium hosts.
After correcting a number of typo/config'o error that had crept in
over the years, I thought I had everything working.
My wife just complained that she cannot call her mother (who is using an
old IAX hardphone I left for her).
After turning up the logging level I see-

Transfer feature dialing out after one digit
Because some users have requested transfer beep confirmations I've
switched our phones over to using the asterisk transfer feature instead
of the built in transfer functions of the phones. While testing it was
working fine, but I changed something in features.conf and suddenly any
time I hit transfer (*2), I can only enter one digit before asterisk
immediately tries to dial that extension.

R-alpha: Hypergeometric Distribution
A cut and paste typo has crept in and is rendering all values returned
for the hypergeometric distribution incorrect. The problem is in
src/main/arithmetic.c in the function "math4". The lines
PROTECT(sy = allocVector(REALSXP, n));
a = REAL(sa);
b = REAL(sb);
c = REAL(sc);
d = REAL(sc); /* <-- change this line */
y = REAL(sy);

Bad merge of r5686 from trunk to 1.2-pre-release?
I do not closely follow the core source commits, but please bare with
me. I will keep it short.
Recently, changeset#5685 [1] caught my attention as I''ve been waiting
for some date_helper love for a VERY long time.
What bothered me is that when this changeset was merged into the 1.2-
pre-release branch (at changeset#5686 [2]) a change to caching.rb
crept in [3], which was not in

[LLVMdev] Multiple module support in MCJIT
I'm about to start working on multiple module support in MCJIT. I know a lot of people are interested in this so it seemed like a good idea to begin by soliciting input.
My immediate plan involves the following:
- Add something to the MCJIT interface to explicitly request module compilation
- Isolate module-specific state variables into a structure so that the state of each module can be

It's possible make a legend in the coplot output?
My data are:

Samba 3.0.28a onwards "allow trusted domains" has no effect?
Hi,
I've noticed a discrepancy between Samba Version 3.0.28a and Version
3.0.24 in relation to Winbind rid idmap and trusted domains behaviour.
I have an environment with 2 domains linked via a trust, an Active
Directory domain and an NT4 domain. On 3.0.24 the rid backend seems to
work fine, but on 3.0.28a it shows OTHERDOMAIN\domain admins instead of
the primary domain's domain

samba Digest, Vol 130, Issue 24
I have been using Samba for quite a while now in my production
environment, really since the very early releases of 4.
There has been some pain here and there, but it has been an exciting and
rewarding process.
I have been noticing more and more changes in the environment, most
minor but some more significant.
A couple of examples.
I did not use--use-rfc2307 when provisioning, it was not

Sound quality issue in one direction and wctdm problem with APIC enabled kernel
I'm chasing down a pop/click type of disturbance on a PBX system.
Strangely, the disturbance is only heard by the outside caller, the
internal recipient hears the caller crystal clear. This seems to have
crept up when upgrading the zaptel driver to the 1.2 series while
running 1.0.10. I went ahead and upgraded the entire system to 1.2.4.
The system is a ~2Ghz AMD 32bit system, with 512MB of

Samba question - Out of File Structures
I could do with some help.
We're creating a large number of files from from NT Workstation.
After a while (I think it's 1014 files but it may be 2027), the SAMBA log
reports "Out
of file structure" errors. Below is a cut down version of the log
file. The 1014 number is significant as it appears in the SAMBA log when
SAMBA starts.
I'm guessing it's a Solaris OS limit.

Call for testing: removal of usb_set_altinterface() call
If you have a USB UPS, and can rebuild NUT from source (tarball or Git), please read on.
I was trying to fix a problem specific to OS X and Tripp Lite UPSes, but it turns out that the redundant call to usb_set_altinterface(0) is right in the middle of the common NUT USB driver code, affecting pretty much any USB UPS that we support. So I would like to get a little additional testing before
