c2d4u: apt sees new package version as a downgrade
Hello, I noticed a strange thing when attempting to upgrade a specific package (lavaan) from c2d4u and wondered if someone could confirm the problem. In short, apt seems to think that an older version from the "universe" repo is higher than the newer version from c2d4u. When I do apt-cache showpkg r-cran-lavaan I get the output at the bottom of this email. Then, I tried to force

dependency errors upgrading to 2.2.1-0sarge1
Running a current, standard debian stable, I added deb http://cran.R-project.org/bin/linux/debian stable/ to /apt/sources.list to get the current backport stable distro. When I installed r-base, apt-get wanted to remove all my previous r-cran-* packages and I let it, but encountered conflicts with things in r-recommended that I've been unable to resolve. It first showed up as (complete

withr::set_makevars
Hi All; This problem has come about from trying to learn some of the review practices recommend by rOpensci. One of them is to use the package goodpractice. After installing goodpractice, it kept failing on my own packages which are under development, and I was concerned something was funny in my own , so I have a fork of the package rerddap, and I tested goodpractice on that. I get the

withr::set_makevars
withr:::set_makevars() can give that error if the makefile named by the 'old_path' argument (default "~/.R/Makevars) contains more than one definition of a variable of the form 'name=value'. You can see what file it is reading and its contents by using the trace() function: trace(withr:::set_makevars, quote({ cat(old_path, "\n"); writeLines(paste0(" ",

debian packages and html help on linux
I have a fresh installation of R from debian unstable packages. The html index found in /usr/lib/R/doc/html/index.html works in Mozilla and under the link of 'packages' on this page I have a list and corresponding links. However, it appears that not all packages I have installed from available deb files via apt-get, will get their link updated to this package index. Specifically, from

Trying to install R on Lucid Lynx
Hi: I installed Lucid Lynx amd64 on my system today, dual booted with Win 7. I've managed to install several packages through the Ubuntu Software Center with success and also installed texlive. Alas, installing my favorite software has not been so joyful. I went through the last few months of posts in this group to find something similar, but to no avail. After a couple of false starts, I

Suggestions to improve the info page of /bin/linux/debian
After Johannes set up the CRAN repository for Jessie, I had quite some trouble figuring out what any user should do to have a running and up-to-date R in Debian (particularly Testing). Part of the problem is, I think, the overwhelming documentation on the page "DEBIAN PACKAGES OF R SOFTWARE" which is provided on CRAN at /bin/linux/debian. Some information is also lacking in places.

It installed R 2.4.1 successfully, but ran into errors while also upgrading r-recommended packages. Creating a private CRAN with webpages
Hello, I am trying to setup a private CRAN for work (behind a firewall). The best options available include miniCRAN <https://github.com/RevolutionAnalytics/miniCRAN>, drat <https://github.com/eddelbuettel/drat> and packrat <https://rstudio.github.io/packrat/>. One problem is these packages do not automatically generate the web pages that are on the CRAN. Examples:

Problema (¿bicho?) en función lm, R 2.14.0
Hola: Al tratar de utilizar la función lm R explota, no se si se trata de un problema de mi máquina o me he dado de bruces con un bicho. Installation woes for rattle (and other packages)
Yesterday I wanted to try rattle on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. I had (and still have) it running (though it complains on startup a bit -- I'll look into that later) on a different bootup on the same machine with 8.04 Hardy. I got an error that libglade cannot be found, and various attempts to get glade support failed. I removed and reinstalled R -- same problem. To avoid the issue of local setup

Suggestions to improve the info page of /bin/linux/debian
Hi Johannes, I didn't know what would be the best approach to modify the page?how it was generated, is there a central place, etc.?which is why I posted on r-sig-debian in the first place. Anyway, although I'm more or less familiar with markdown and pandoc, it was easier for me to edit directly README.html as it was on CRAN. Please find attached a revision with the modifications I
