Metadata socket read error
Howdy, I've had tinc working great for over a year now. They just made some network changes at work and now I'm only able to make a connection for a few seconds(30) or so before I get a "Metadata socket read error". I wan't to think that's some kind of firewall timeout thing but I'm not sure. I have no control over the FW or network at work so I'm not clear on

Meta-question: anonymity makes me cranky
...bye at the end of his message. In fact, unless you all tell me that I''m a sour old git, I will not answer anonymous pleas for help in the future.[2] It might be that my reaction is more anti-social than their lack of manners (as I perceive it), but at least I''m not making people cranky by shutting up. My ceasing to answer anonymous questions won''t lead to a huge dip in the traffic on this list, of course, but perhaps others have already reacted in the same way, and we are missing a lot of good traffic already. What do you think? Best regards, /David [1] I don'...

How do I tell it which directory to use?
...2.2.0 under Windows, I want to be able to give it a filename such as "myFile.txt" without the quotes. But actually I mean: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\qpaper7\R Project Started 19 Dec 05\myFile.txt If I were to repeat this each time, my computer would get all bored and cranky and start to drop bits (only a joke, of course). I think I want to set the Home directory or the working directory or some directory or other to the above directory. I may or may not want to set some environmental variables. R 2.2.0; working directly from the console and copying and pasting co...

''dependencies'' and RedCloth
Hey gang. Jed noticed an issue with the ''dependency''/''dependencies'' macro the other day when working on the Collective wiki. Namely, if you make RedCloth a dependency Merb gets a little cranky. I think I have this figured out when doing some mods to Collective today too. However, before I go trying to fix this in Merb, I wanted to run this by the community. The problem is simple: RedCloth requires you first load Rubygems. That is... Hey Jed. I think I have this ''dependency&...

Experiences with FoneBridge2 / TDMoE?
I'm scoping out HA for a relatively simple Office/Call Center PBX. Current setup uses a TE412P with 4 PRI our telco with SIP hard/soft phones for users. Some outbound also goes to a SIP provider. Active/Active looks to be too much hassle for an installation this size, so we're looking at adding an extra * in an active/passive configuration with Linux-HA in between them. Does anyone

...e and I have no issues like this. [I am upgrading a two-box 'cluster' one box at a time...]. Again, I see no errors - samba seems to think the printer accepted the job while the printer thinks it is getting junk. This is not a show stopper since i can just use the LPD style queue for the cranky printers... Any thoughts.. Paul Sanders Univera Health Care IT Excellus, Inc. Paul.Sanders@excellus.com

Multivariate linear regression
Hi, I am working on a multivariate linear regression of the form y = Ax. I am seeing a great dispersion of y w.r.t x. For example, the correlations between y and x are very small, even after using some typical transformations like log, power. I tried with simple linear regression, robust regression and ace and avas package in R (or splus). I didn't see an improvement in the fit and

[LLVMdev] Adding diversity for security (and testing)
...e threat level doesn't justify the cost. As for using AES-128, I see buzzword value, but no real technical need. (No question that "crypto == good" syndrome comes into play here; it's rare that you have to defend using crypto even if it isn't warranted. Until you run into a cranky-pants like me!) In any case you need a fallback for when OpenSSL isn't available. I'm not claiming what LLVM has now is adequate for you (looks like it uses rand(2)) but AES-128 seems like overkill. (I've lost track of the general crypto-export-control state of things, but just a remi...

Interfacing with Siemens SITOP UPS500S
Hello all, For an upcoming project I will have to interface with a 24V DC UPS from Siemens (full name: Siemens SITOP UPS500S, manufacturer nr 6EP1933-2EC41). As this device is not listed in the compatibility list, I will have to write my own driver. I already found out, that the UPS has a serial-over-USB interface (USB full-speed, 12 MBps), using an FTDI chip. Over this serial port, it will

why no recent bind update for CentOS 6?
...) I certainly wouldn?t mind if my employer wasn?t too cheap to buy the real deal from RH and have all the nice patching and auditing tools, but alas? it is what it is. At least we have CentOS! Plus I?m dumb enough not to mandate it, trying to be the ?good guy? and save them some $. (GRIN) I was cranky yesterday - I was patching Windoze servers, which is way less safe to do, and way more annoying. Apologies for the tone. :) :) :) Honestly I don?t know how you guys do it? -- Nate

RJS referring to window.parent
...uld output "window.parent..." with no surrounding quotes. If that worked, Prototype would find the element just fine. The only other choice I have here is actually fetching all the JS output, and writing it all in the view, changing the target for the Prototype functions. But that sounds cranky to me. Any ideas? -- Julio C. Ody http://rootshell.be/~julioody

Roaming profile & f-secure problem
Hi, are there any know problems with f-secure scanner and roaming profiles? We have a lot of users with problems syncing their roaming profile from the domain server. It seems to be a problem with f-secure's on-access scanning (may be timeout problem?). Some users have to login three or four times, before getting their roaming profile and not the default profile. ...ight seem like a trivial matter but I at least wanted to see if this longer time is expected. I am suspecting that b/c the new server IS enforcing encryption ( where the older one was not) that the time increase could be attributed to this fact? unable to access shares on Windows 98 machine
...accessing a share on that, so it seems like the problem is between Ubuntu 12.04.1 and Windows 98. Samba on the 12.04 machine is version 3.6.3. Samba on the 10.04 machine is version 3.4.7. Any ideas? Is there some way to tell samba "when you talk to the windows 98 machine, he's old and cranky, so you have to talk like this for him to understand"? thanks in advance, John

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks. mhr

SPA112 provisioning file questions
Hi all, I've got a provisioning file that I use to configure Cisco SPA112's. I'm wanting to get this file to do 3 things for me. I want to turn T.38 on, Call forwarding off, and Call waiting, off for both lines. but it's not working. This is what I'm using to enable T.38 for line 1. <FAX_Enable_T38_1_>Yes</FAX_Enable_T38_1_>
