Cranked Online BMX Magazine
You have been selected to receive this message because of your interest
in BMX.

We are starting a new web site called Cranked Online BMX Magazine.
Currently there are only a few links and a chat room (which seems to
work really well). In the near future we plan to add a track directory,
product reviews, pro interviews, photo shoots, etc.
Now is the time we need to

The fonts are all messed up unless I crank the dpi up a lot
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1520/screenshot10ul7.png
It's the same on all resolutions, even on high ones, but I'm legally blind so I have to use 800x600 ~_~
Reinstalling Wine didn't help, completely removing it and reinstalling it didn't do squat, installing some msfont thing didn't do anything either.
anyway, I'm a total noob at this linux thing, the only reason i

I have had good success fiddling with the txgain and rxgain values in
zapata.conf on my PRI. In my setup, cranking the gain down a LOT eliminated

CD emulation (a la daemontools)
I was wondering if anyone was aware of a method for mounting virtual CD
devices with CD image files. I keep images (.CUE/.BIN pairs) of my CD
collection on a NAS appliance tucked away in my closet. I'd like to
write a script to mount each one, create ID tags, rip the tracks, then
move along to the next one. I figure with a quad core opteron, it
should be able to crank through them in a

[OT] Oldest Telephone
While the rest of you were chatting about the smallest * server, I was
sitting her staring at the telephone hanging on the wall.
It is a Western Electric set in a varnished pine box with an earpiece
you hold in your left hand and a mouthpiece attached to the box. You
crank the magneto with your right hand to signal the switchboard.
The two dry cells inside are dated 1935, and I'm

Calculating variances in a moving window
I am trying to create basic descriptive statistics for a spatial dataset
using moving windows of variable sizes.
I found the filter(dataset, rep(1/a,1)) very useful for obtaining
averages for a given moving window size "a"
(a is the window size within a column of data in a matrix - the filter
is applied to all columns automatically)
I could not find anything analogous for

Volume (gain?) on VoIP-only system.
Hi, all. I've got a customer who's complaining of low volume, especially
for conference calls. If this were a Zap system, I'd just bump up txgain
in their zaptel.conf file... but it isn't. Should I crank the volume of
the phones (they're Polycoms), or is there some other, more graceful,
system-wide setting I could use to increase gain?
Thanks!

Too many open files when using clearcase
FYI:
I'm using samba 2.0.6 for clearcase interoperation between Unix and NT,
and while it works
great 99% of the time, I run into a problem whenever I do a complete build
on an NT system,
which involves compiling ~1500 files. The first 1100 or so are compiled
correctly, but then the following
errors show up on the NT box:
The system cannot open the
device or file specified.

repost gain problem with asterisk and zaptel 1.4
Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with gain settings using a Wildcard
X100P and Zaptel 1.4 Beta 2 on Asterisk 1.4 beta 3. My transmit volume
between an IAX client (idefisk) and a POTS device through my 1.4 box is
great, but my receive volume is terrible. I can hardly hear a word they
say. I've cranked my gains up to 100, inserted the wcfxo module with
boost=1, but haven't had

TDM analog cards, volume, echo, fxotune, ztmonitor and HPEC
Hi, everyone:
I am developing a system using Asterisk, TDM-400 analog cards, analog
lines, and Polycom SIP phones for internal extensions.
Initially there was bad echo but after a series of efforts, I've managed
to reduce it to a negligible level (it only happens when both parties
speak simultaneously, and even there, only for a few hundred
milliseconds). From an echo standpoint, things are

This is (maybe to a lesser extent) what happens with most of our
benchmarks, and running them 3 times doesn't add that much confidence but
makes it run much slower. I end up treating the test-suite as

IMAP hibernate and scalability in general
Hello,
as some may remember, we're running very dense IMAP cluster here, in
excess of 50k IMAP sessions per node (current record holder is 68k, design
is for 200k+).
The first issue we ran into was that the dovecot master process (which is
single thread and thus a bottleneck) was approaching 100% CPU usage (aka
using a full core) when trying to spawn off new IMAP processes.
This was

XP Pro connecting to PDC
I have followed the FAQs and HOW-TOs, including the Sign and Seal registry patch, but I am unable to make this work.
RedHat 9.0
Samba 3.0.0rc4
XP Pro SP1
When I setup the PC and join the domain, it gives me the 'Welcome to the Domain' message, but I really don't think that this has worked because of errors in the log file, (yes I can provide, and yes I am using the smb user root).

Browse Master Election
Hi,
A weird problem ... My PDC is running samba 3.0 cvs from a couple of weeks ago. the os level is set to 65 and that machine has been the master for my domain for ages, until last night. A win2k client machine stoll the domain and made itself the master for the domain, hence a few problems. I have cranked the os level to 80, however I'm pretty sure that is not supported/a bad idea/not to be

Troubleshooting RSYNC
Greetings,
I am having a problem with rsync deleting entire folders and files and then
attempting to recopy the entire contents of the folder(s) even though they
are up to date. The task is syncing from ubuntu (rsync version 3.1.1) to
windows using cygwin (rsync version 3.1.2). I have a number of these
configurations, and they all work except this one. I use the

lapply with data frame
I'm a bit confused on how to use lapply with a data.frame.
For example.
lapply(data, function(x) print(x))
WHAT exactly is passed to the function. Is it each ROW in the data
frame, one by one, or each column, or the entire frame in one shot?
What I want to do apply a function to each row in the data frame. Is
lapply the right way.
A second application is to normalize a column value by

IMAP hibernate and scalability in general
We've been using hibernate for about half a year with no ill effects. There
were various logged errors in earlier versions of dovecot, but even with
those, we never heard a reported customer-side error (almost always when
transitioning from hibernate back to regular imap; in the case of those
errors, presumably the mail client just reconnected silently).

debugging really high network usage with no apparent cause
hello,
i'm not a heavy samba user in general (works without any serious
tweaking on my modest home network), but one of my clients is and we
are seeing some strange behavior. perhaps it makes sense to someone
with more clue. if not, i could use some advice in how to figure out
what is going on.
