Metadata socket read error
Howdy, I've had tinc working great for over a year now. They just made some network changes at work and now I'm only able to make a connection for a few seconds(30) or so before I get a "Metadata socket read error". I wan't to think that's some kind of firewall timeout thing but I'm not sure. I have no control over the FW or network at work so I'm not clear on

Meta-question: anonymity makes me cranky
Fellow mongrelians, forgive a slightly off-topic rant; my hope is that it can lead to a better world. In the past few months, I have seen an increase in "anonymous" questions on this list, "anonymous" in the sense that the sender names do not resemble real human names, and also in the sense that the messages have not been signed. Just today, we have seen "Geek Moth

How do I tell it which directory to use?
>From Tom: In R 2.2.0 under Windows, I want to be able to give it a filename such as "myFile.txt" without the quotes. But actually I mean: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\qpaper7\R Project Started 19 Dec 05\myFile.txt If I were to repeat this each time, my computer would get all bored and cranky and start to drop bits (only a joke, of course). I think I want to set

''dependencies'' and RedCloth
Hey gang. Jed noticed an issue with the ''dependency''/''dependencies'' macro the other day when working on the Collective wiki. Namely, if you make RedCloth a dependency Merb gets a little cranky. I think I have this figured out when doing some mods to Collective today too. However, before I go trying to fix this in Merb, I wanted to run this by the community.

Experiences with FoneBridge2 / TDMoE?
I'm scoping out HA for a relatively simple Office/Call Center PBX. Current setup uses a TE412P with 4 PRI our telco with SIP hard/soft phones for users. Some outbound also goes to a SIP provider. Active/Active looks to be too much hassle for an installation this size, so we're looking at adding an extra * in an active/passive configuration with Linux-HA in between them. Does anyone

Multivariate linear regression
Hi, I am working on a multivariate linear regression of the form y = Ax. I am seeing a great dispersion of y w.r.t x. For example, the correlations between y and x are very small, even after using some typical transformations like log, power. I tried with simple linear regression, robust regression and ace and avas package in R (or splus). I didn't see an improvement in the fit and

Interfacing with Siemens SITOP UPS500S
Hello all, For an upcoming project I will have to interface with a 24V DC UPS from Siemens (full name: Siemens SITOP UPS500S, manufacturer nr 6EP1933-2EC41). As this device is not listed in the compatibility list, I will have to write my own driver. I already found out, that the UPS has a serial-over-USB interface (USB full-speed, 12 MBps), using an FTDI chip. Over this serial port, it will

job fails to print via samba 2.2.6-pre1 - lpd ASCII a nd postscript test works fine...
Ah, it appears that I have confused myself... I indeed have ALL of the queues defined as JetDirect with the model specific driver selected in printconf. With this combination I am telling linux to modify the job [via the filter] and then pass it as a RAW [jetdirect] where I SHOULD just have the queue define as JetDirect with a RAW as the driver and let the job go as transmitted by the client

RJS referring to window.parent
Hi all, I''ve been doing some work on the Ajax Scaffold (http://www.ajaxscaffold.com/), to make it work with file uploads (more specifically, the file_upload plugin). The first logical step was to get rid of form_remote_tag, since it''s impossible to send files via XMLHTTPRequests (to my best knowledge). So I referred to the iframe hack, similar to the upload progress bar here

Roaming profile & f-secure problem
Hi, are there any know problems with f-secure scanner and roaming profiles? We have a lot of users with problems syncing their roaming profile from the domain server. It seems to be a problem with f-secure's on-access scanning (may be timeout problem?). Some users have to login three or four times, before getting their roaming profile and not the default profile. Samba and file access latency
I've recently migrated a handful of shares from Samba ver 2.28 to ver 3.3.4 w/ LDAP backend. Both cases are stand alone samba servers. So all is working well and I have managed to iron out some of the kinks, however now my users are complaining about excel files ( on the shares) taking too long to open as well as to save. I did some tests to get some numbers to deal with and in fact see

unable to access shares on Windows 98 machine
I have installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on a new laptop. Everything seems great, except... I have this old Windows 98 machine that I treat as a server (no remarks, please). I've had it for a long time. When I access the shares from the Ubuntu 12.0.4 machine, a lot of files and directories that I know are there do not show up. I've tried just browsing to the shares in nautilus, places

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks. mhr

SPA112 provisioning file questions
Hi all, I've got a provisioning file that I use to configure Cisco SPA112's. I'm wanting to get this file to do 3 things for me. I want to turn T.38 on, Call forwarding off, and Call waiting, off for both lines. but it's not working. This is what I'm using to enable T.38 for line 1. <FAX_Enable_T38_1_>Yes</FAX_Enable_T38_1_>
