Good books about the internals of Rails 3
Hi, I''m a new RoR and Ruby developer and I''m searching for some good
resources (books or website) that go a little further than books like
the railstutorial (which is excellent btw).
But after reading this, I feel like as long as I''m working with
scaffolding and simple gems, it''s ok, and a lot can be accomplished with
this but I would like to have a deeper

advice on crafting examples for packages
Folks-
I have developed a package which I am planning on posting to CRAN.
I include examples for each of the 40 or so functions in the package.
However, since the examples are non-trivial and the package is
using MCMC simulation methods, it takes about 20 minutes to run the complete
set of examples on a 2.8 Ghz windows PC. The R process reaches a high
water mark of about 100 MB of memory as

Another Fedora decision
OK, folks. You're doing a great job of describing the current milieu
with a rough description of some best practices.
Now how about some specific sources you personally used to learn your
craft that we can use likewise?

MD4 checksum_seed
Hi,
The following lines in compat.c are rather imprudent:
if (read_batch || write_batch)
checksum_seed = 32761;
else
checksum_seed = time(NULL);
write_int(f_out,checksum_seed);
Setting checksum_seed to a constant in batch mode means block collisions
are reproducible and predictable. Thus, some files will be permanently
"unlucky" in batch mode and will

Avaya 9608G and DHCP and TFTP and HTTP oh my
Ok, to review, I'm trying to get Avaya 9608G to come up in a pure Asterisk environment-- no Avaya SBC or gateway or any other Avaya gear in sight.
I have the phone working to the point where it boots up properly, then displays a Username and Password prompt, and says its extension is 123 and the time is 4:57p, which is wrong.
But please don't tell me the only way to program up each

" A remote attacker can send a carefully crafted packet that can overflow a
stack buffer and potentially allow malicious code to be executed with the
privilege level of the ntpd process. All NTP4 releases before 4.2.8 are
vulnerable."

disappointed with complete lack of help.
I sent a request for help on the 21st of January....I waited.....I sent it

The help on this list is horrible..... I am sorry for whining.
I talk up open source regularly and I help when I can..... but, the claim
