They have been given 991 points! Why!
Perhaps Peter can point out my error before I raise the issue with the

remote DoS in sftp via crafted glob expressions (CVE-2010-4755)
...ribed as:
The (1) remote_glob function in sftp-glob.c and the (2) process_put
function in sftp.c in OpenSSH 5.8 and earlier, as used in FreeBSD 7.3
and 8.1, NetBSD 5.0.2, OpenBSD 4.7, and other products, allow remote
authenticated users to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory
consumption) via crafted glob expressions that do not match any
pathnames, as demonstrated by glob expressions in SSH_FXP_STAT
requests to an sftp daemon, a different vulnerability than
CVE-2010-2632.
This looks to have been corrected in NetBSD, but I don't know how
portable their fix is. Here are some references:...

Good books about the internals of Rails 3
Hi, I''m a new RoR and Ruby developer and I''m searching for some good
resources (books or website) that go a little further than books like
the railstutorial (which is excellent btw).
But after reading this, I feel like as long as I''m working with
scaffolding and simple gems, it''s ok, and a lot can be accomplished with
this but I would like to have a deeper

advice on crafting examples for packages
Folks-
I have developed a package which I am planning on posting to CRAN.
I include examples for each of the 40 or so functions in the package.
However, since the examples are non-trivial and the package is
using MCMC simulation methods, it takes about 20 minutes to run the complete
set of examples on a 2.8 Ghz windows PC. The R process reaches a high
water mark of about 100 MB of memory as

OK, folks. You're doing a great job of describing the current milieu
with a rough description of some best practices.
Now how about some specific sources you personally used to learn your

[librsync-devel] librsync and rsync vulnerability to maliciously crafted data. was Re: MD4 checksum_seed
...respect to what? I think it would be nice if repeatedly
> summing identicaly files gave identical signatures. Maybe it can vary
> depending on only the input data...
The problem is repeatability is what makes it vulnerable. If the content
fully determines the signature, the content can be crafted to produce a
particular signature. It is relatively easy to calculate two different
blocks with the same blocksum if the checksum_seed is known.
librsync could be modified to detect when two blocks had the same
blocksum in a signature, and permutate the checksum seed in a
deterministic way to tr...

...ed retransmission. Also, it
means a malicious adversary can perform a performance degradation attack
by injecting a pair of blocks with the same checksum1 and checksum2 (so
that, for example, if you use rsync to backup your website database,
someone could slow down your backups by posting carefully crafted
comments). The latter issue also exists in non-batch mode, since time()
is often predictable. The right thing to do is to always use a really
random value (e.g., use /dev/urandom if available). In batch mode, you
can store the random value somewhere in the batch fileset.
Note that, above, block...

Avaya 9608G and DHCP and TFTP and HTTP oh my
...eway or any other Avaya gear in sight.
I have the phone working to the point where it boots up properly, then displays a Username and Password prompt, and says its extension is 123 and the time is 4:57p, which is wrong.
But please don't tell me the only way to program up each phone is via the craft interface?
Every other phone I've ever used requires a configuration file, which has the MAC address of the phone as its name. The Avaya phones must have some other method. Unless I have to embed the mac address and particulars for all the phones into the 46xxsettings.txt file??
How do I get...

which includes this:
" A remote attacker can send a carefully crafted packet that can overflow a
stack buffer and potentially allow malicious code to be executed with the
privilege level of the ntpd process. All NTP4 releases before 4.2.8 are
vulnerable."
"This vulnerability is resolved with NTP-stable4.2.8 on December 19, 2014."

The help on this list is horrible..... I am sorry for whining.
I talk up open source regularly and I help when I can..... but, the claim
