hi there, I have to create a new server.xml which should be build from at least 3 or 4 another xml files. How could to copy and paste with puppet methods ? On a command line under Unix I would do cat 1.xml > my_file.xml ; cat 2.xml >> my_file.xml; cat 3.xml >> my_file.xml. I have to say, I''m pretty new to puppet and simply have no clue how to tackle this task ;=(

Sampling given a table of percentages?
I have a vector V. sum(V) = 100, i.e. it's percentages. length(V) is large. I wish to generate samples (with replacement is fine), integers, in the range 1:length(V) who's distribution is driven by the distribution implied by the percentages in V. V is unsorted, but that could change. I'd rather not be too specific about the distribution of V. I can certainly solve the

X509v3 Subject Alternative Name in puppet generated certs...
I''m trying to split out my certificate authority and have one CA and multiple masters, currently using round robin DNS, possibly using HAproxy later. Got most of the way there but tangled up in names and certificates. When the Puppet CA generated it''s certificate the PTR record for it''s IP pointed back to it''s domain name ("henson") and it had a CNAME

Question about file ownership on destination
Hello Regarding ownership on the destination: rsync's man page indicates that when synchronizing files to a remote host, -o implies the --numeric-ids option, which makes perfect sense aince the named users/groups may not exist on the destination host. The problem I have is that the files created on the destination still appear to be owned by the local user (server1) on the rsync

Dovecot RFC non-compliance: Mailbox names
Hi, I think I already know the answer to this and I agree with it, but I have a question about "invalid" mailbox naming decisions in dovecot. Technically, RFC3501 (Section 5.1, pg. 18, client consideration 3) says that * and % are legal in mailbox names, though it implicitly discourages their use. We just migrated to dovecot, and unfortunately have a few users who used * in their

what will january 19th bring?
so, the rumor is that apple will announce an authoring-tool for e-books tomorrow, and most specifically for digital text-books. and, if you look closely, they _are_ rumors. nothing more... plus, they don't even seem to be coming from sources inside of apple. nonetheless, the rumor is "authoring tools". "garageband for e-books", as ars called it... if it's true,

invalid vdev configuration after power failure
What does it mean for a vdev to have an invalid configuration and how can it be fixed or reset? As you can see, the following pool can no longer be imported: (Note that the "last accessed by another system" warning is because I moved these drives to my test workstation.) ~$ zpool import -f pool0 cannot import ''pool0'': invalid vdev configuration ~$ zpool import pool:

mbox to maildir conversion on a user-by-user basis!
In the midst of evaluating Dovecot for use in solving some mbox locking issues (while also waiting for our eventual migration to maildir), I had an epiphany. It looks like Dovecot's auto-detection of mail formats would allow us to migrate from mbox to maildir on a user-by-user basis! I was thinking: 1. Let dovecot autodetect mail storage 2. Use some procmail trickery to detect which format

question regarding sharing hardware
thanks very much for the reply. however my question was not about some quick shortcuts. i wanted to know how come i can access the internet connection(on the linux client) through a telephone modem (on the windows machine)but not tv transmission through the (tv tuner) video card (on the windows machine). both of them are hardware sitting on the same motherboard !! i will also appreciate if some

Investigating Unicode. Take 2, with nastities and allegations.
Well, I see that my last email hasn''t generated any reaction from the Rails core team. It looks like all of them are the happy users of "plain text" (which, as we know by now, doesn''t exist, but still). I apologize in advance for the sore bitterness of this message but I see that the Rails-core STILL, despite all of the efforts, sees these issues as something

survival package
R core team - It took far, far longer than I anticipated, but I have finally finished the next release of the survival code. Primary changes 1. The source has been migrated to Rforge. This will now be the primary source. I've used SCCS -> rcs -> cvs and now svn. Further changes will be someone else's problem. I expect that maintaince will now begin to migrate to a larger

Call for volunteers
Hi, I have built a list of projects that would benefit Wine (or at least would make me feel better) and yet should be easy to tackle by new Wine developpers. So if you wanted to contribute to Wine but just did not know where to start I hope this list can provide you with some ideas. If you want to contribute but don't find anything that motivates you in this list, just post a message

NFSv4 and locking
Greetings, We use NFSv4 on our cluster and perform distributed indexing (well, we used to on our previous system which used a simple touch() locking mechanism). I'm having a spot of bother getting Xapian to obtain a lock (hangs on fcntl64()). I've read http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/XapianOverNFS and other list posts, and noted that a lock daemon should be running to allow locks
