Can't install program from CDROM / DVD
I'm having trouble installing a program from the CDROM / DVD drive. I've checked to see that the mapping of the d: drive is correctly pointing to the right place - it is: ~/.wine/dosdevices$ ls -l total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 cosmo cosmo 10 2009-10-04 18:46 c: -> ../drive_c lrwxrwxrwx 1 cosmo cosmo 13 2010-08-12 20:19 d: -> /media/cdrom0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 cosmo cosmo 8 2010-07-25 19:12 d:: -> /dev/sr0 I run the install program, it runs from the DVD as expected: ~/.wine/dosdevices$ wine start d:\Komplete\ 6\ Setup\ P...

Kontakt doesn't respond to Akai USB MIDI Keyboard
...;Midi 1" is set to "Port A". I've also tried setting to ports b,c,d, but no luck. I don't have jack or ASIO running yet as I want to troubleshoot one thing at a time. Is there something additional that needs to be done for USB MIDI keyboards to work under Wine? TIA, Cosmo

No Jack Realtime w/ Wine, Kontakt 4
Ubuntu 10.04. Wine 1.2 I'm running Native Instruments Kontakt 4 under Wine. It runs fine except for occasional stutters, so I wanted to try enabling Realtime in Jack, but I have no luck with this. (I have made recommended edits to the limits.conf file, though I've read that this is no longer necessary(?): @audio - rtprio 100, @audio - memlock 250000) When I start up Kontakt, I see

Semi-OT: very weird vi behaviour
This is weird. As in, *deeply* weird. I ssh as root from one box to another (there are keys involved), and I go to vi a file, such as # line 1 # # line 2 # # line 3 # line 4 And what I see in vi is # line 3 # line 4 BUT, if I scroll the cursor over each line with the arrow key... I see all four lines. I've also looked at another file, and same thing. Just checked it out on the server I

Clustering newbie question
Hello, Please advice on encoding data for the following clustering problem.  I have a dataset with car usage info. Dataset has the following fields: 1. Car model  (Toyoya Celica, BMW, Nissan X-Trail, Mazda Cosmo, etc.) 2. Year built  3. Country where the car runs  4. Distance run by car before major repairs  Important: The above dataset is sparse.  In most cases "Distance" is not known for all countries for a given car.    Problem:  For a given car predict the "Distance" it will run b...

[RFC] A new multidimensional array indexing intrinsic
...e in [Appendix A](#Appendix-A) in the same spirit as the above simple example, but one a compiler might realistically wish to perform. ## Evaluation of the impact of the intrinsic on accuracy of dependence analysis - This has been implemented in an exprimental branch of Polly, and was used on the COSMO climate weather model. This greatly helped increase the accuracy of Polly's analysis, since we eliminated the guessing game from the array analysis. - This has also been implemented as part of a GSoC effort to unify Chapel and Polly. - Molly, the distributed version of Polly written by Michae...

trouble installing building packages from source using R 2.6.0 on Ubuntu Gutsy AMD64
I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu Gutsy and, for the first time, am using a 64-bit installation. After failing miserably to install R from source, not a problem for me in the past with a 32-bit install, I went the route of using the Debian Etch build. This went smoothly, but I am unable to update my numerous R and BioConductor packages, getting non-zero exit status errors on each package. Is
