Bourne shell deprecated?
Hello List, Today someone in a meeting claimed the Bourne shell is deprecated, one of the reasons being it supposedly has security issues. Well that's all news to me, and I cannot find anything online to corroborate the claim. Is this true, is it a bash vs. Bourne FUD, or something else? Thanks, Jack

Checksum property change does not change pre-existing data - right?
My understanding is that if I "zfs set checksum=<different>" to change the algorithm that this will change the checksum algorithm for all FUTURE data blocks written, but does not in any way change the checksum for previously written data blocks. I need to corroborate this understanding. Could someone please point me to a document that states this? I have searched and searched

blame-transfer protocol on PXE boot
...etal, pxelinux works great from a push of the reset button. machine boots normally. However, after i issue 'reboot' command, my box fails to find the tftp server during reboot. This looks to be happening before pxelinux has any chance to participate, so it cannot be to blame. understanding namespace configuration
...quite clear how to denote a namespace as "default". from coming across this thread [ http://mailman2.u.washington.edu/pipermail/imap-protocol/2010-May/001077.html ] it would indicate in theory that a namespace is denoted as default by using an empty prefix - but i wasn't able to find corroboration of that in dovecot's documentation. thanks -ben

performance problem with windows 2003 client
I've run into an odd (at least to me) performance issue between a samba server and windows 2003. The windows side is w2k3 w/ SP2 on an HP DL585 with HP EVA SAN storage. Linux is CentOS 5 on a Sun X4200 with samba package samba-3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4and a FUSE mounted filesystem (glusterFS). Watching the network tab of task manager while pulling a few large files from the samba server to the

uninitialized values in Attributes.cpp

Yes, I'd be interested to see some corroboration. Note that the issue here is pretty specific: it only happens during optimized compile using Clang-3.9. This is all I did: 1. checkout LLVM/clang trunk 2. make sure clang in path is clang-3.9 3. cmake .. -GNinja -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RelWithDebInfo -DLLVM_ENABLE_ASSERTIONS=On -DCMAKE_CXX_COMP...

About the media type, my understanding was that text was for actual text, not binary that could be decoded into text. If you think another would be more appropriate, please tell which. If it would be text/x-kate, I'd see

WeatherScope Color-Choosing Issues
Hi All, In my continuing efforts to get WeatherScope running flawlessly under Wine, I've noticed issues with WeatherScope's built in color chooser. When you run the program, by default a map of Oklahoma appears. If you right click on the entry in the legend (on the left side) and select properties, you have the option of choosing the color. If you click on the small color button, the

Non-working module on TDM400P?
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on how to determine whether or not a module has gone wonky on the TDM400P? I have a 2 FXO (channels 3 and 4) and 2 FXS unit (channels 1 and 2). The bad (?) module in question is the FXO module on channel 3. I can't dial in to or out of that channel; dialing in gives a busy signal, dialing out just shows * hanging around after attempting a

Math ops behaviour with multiple classes
..."foo" "integer" So basically, the behavior seems to be: when the class attribute can be coerced to "numeric" by as.numeric(), it is. Otherwise it is left as is. Note that log is a primitive function not in the Ops groups, but has similar behavior. I would guess (corroboration or correction by more knowledgeable folks appreciated!) that this sort of semi-confusion with S3 classes was one of the motivators for adding the more rigorous S4 system. HTH Cheers, Bert Bert Gunter "The trouble with having an open mind is that people keep coming along and sticking thing...
