Ruby, Rails & Linux - Which distro ??
Hi,
I''ve been doing most of my initial playing with rails on a windows
system - but wish to switch to a dedicated linux box for this.
Are there any particular distro''s to avoid / recommend. I prefer debian
for my other stuff, but thought i''d ask before going ahead. :)
Cheers

original windows install in a separate partition, and I''m wondering if
it''s possible for me to access it from within ubuntu, using xen''s
hardware virtualization. The laptop is a Latitude D820, with a
CoreDuo T2400 CPU, and as I understand it the CPU does support Intell
VT-x. But I''m entirely new to this game and I''m not sure how to go
about it. Have you got any pointers?
thanks,
matt

CPU Model detection with virsh capabilities

detected only with the cpumodel "pentium3".
But if use the kvm -cpu ? command, it returns me the following

Moreover, if i decide to use the pentium3 cpumodel for my KVM VM, the

(I have noticed recently, online, off-lease Dells, Lenovo's, HP's, and

Ad's mention 32-bit software but when you look up the processor spec

building a phone
...y embedded platforms nowadays. I assume that the relevant
application requires some non-trivial CPU power. I would exclude e.g. a
486-based systems. My target phone should be able to handle at least two
concurrent Speex calls. Preferrebly 6 speex calls and above.
OTOH, I can't afford a monster CoreDuo. I need a quiet system with no
fan. Thus the target CPU may be higher end VIA or Atom. Not sure about
Geode.
There are also some interesting ARM-based boards around. I'm completely
unfamiliar with them but I suspect that they may prove to be cheaper.

OT: iBook or MacBook Pro?
Well, the worm has turned and I think I may actually get an Apple ;P.
But I can''t decide which one. Pros and cons:
14" iBook:
+ modem (for when broadband kicks out, or on the road and there''s no
WIFI)
+ screen is probably big enough (though I currently have a 15" Dell)
+ doesn''t get as hot as the MacBook
+ almost half the cost
+ less likely to get stolen

Many thanks for helping me get to the bottom of this, though could you
clarify what you mean when you say that the difference is only in the
"syscall" feature? I've looked at cpu_map.xml, and compared the features
for n270 (pentiumpro+coreduo+ssse3) with SandyBridge
(pentiumpro+Conroe+Penryn+Nehalem+Westmere+pclmuldq+SandyBridge) and am
seeing quite a few differences (see below). The main issue though for
me, is that the libvirt architecture need not be representative of the
virtualisation architecture. Apart from the issue of CPU d...

I'm trying to run Battery3 with Wine, but I'm experiencing some problems.
