[LLVMdev] Checked arithmetic
In looking at the LLVM reference manual, it is conspicuous that (a) the IR does not define condition codes, and (b) the IR does not define opcodes that return condition results in addition to their computational results. Given the IR as it stands, how does one go about *efficiently* implementing a language that requires checked arithmetic? I do understand that it can be done using intrinsics, but

Does DomainCompatibilityMode still work for NT4 domain joins in Windows 10?
Greetings! I have a brand new Windows 10 Pro box, Version 1703, Build 15063.1155, and made the two registry mods (DNSNameResolutionRequired and DomainCompatibilityMode) to enable it to join an old-style NT4 Samba domain (Version 4.3). However, I note that the dialog for joining a domain within Windows 10 now specifically says to "Join an Active Directory Domain," and no attempt to join

communicate from Rterm
Please, help with announcing an error from Rterm: I am calling R from an Excel VBA and noticed that if there is an error nothing conspicuous happens. I would like just a popup window when R cannot finish cleanly. The "ret " value returned from Shell is useless in determining what happened. Thank you all. ***************************** Public Sub Repo() ds = InputBox("Type in

Securing SSH wiki article outdated
...I am fully aware that people in the 'it's a waste of time' camp are > unmoved by that. It's not worth arguing about; those who move to > non-standard ports are going to want to do it anyway. Lamar's comments are very sensible. I always change the SSH port to something conspicuously different. Every server has a different and difficult to guess SSH port number with access restricted to a few IP addresses. Waste of time = all the time and energy required to clean-up after a hacker's breech when a few seconds work selecting a different port could make a beneficial improveme...

We currently don't have this because noone has implemented it yet. It would be

Re: ./configure --with-pam fails always
John, don't be harsh with Philippe. To answer his question, you don't really need any more information than what he abundantly provided in his mailing. His problem is that he hasn't installed the ldap-devel or pam-devel or some other of the more than 100 devel packages that might be needed to compile samba with a distinctive set of --with-this-or-that options. His compiler simply

A Memoir on FastCGI and Apache
With the release of our filmfury.com project, I''ve been trying to rise to the stature of a true system administrator in the last couple of days (haha). I''m trying to understand how all of the pieces to this apache/fastcgi deployment fit together. Here''s what I''ve learned so far: * You need a separate FastCGI server for each Rails application on your

Statistical mode
One descriptive statistic that is conspicuously missing from core R is the statistical mode - the most frequent value in a discrete distribution. I would like to propose adding the attached 'statmode' (or a similar function) to the 'stats' package. Currently, it can be quite cumbersome to calculate the mode of a distribution...

ATA refuses to answer a call?
...eople call this extension, the console shows that Asterisk accepts the call from the DAHDI channel, executes the SIP call, then... nothing. It either waits until the timeout set in the dialplan is up, then goes to voicemail (next step), or it sends a 'hangup cause 102' to the DAHDI channel. Conspicuously missing is the console saying "SIP/username is ringing". The following is redacted output from such a call: -- Executing [6045551212 at local:1] Dial("DAHDI/6-1", "SIP/sipuser|20") in new stack -- Called sipuser -- Accepting call from '7785550001'...

applaud.wav sounds worse in 1.0?
I've been running through a collection of hard to encode samples that the lame developers use, and others, doing ABX testing at various quality levels looking for my personal sweet spot. Last time I did this for RC3 I found that most samples where pretty transparent around the 3.5-4 region (my ears aren't that well trained, and I don't want them to be :-), but this time I noticed

Centos 5.7, I10 video, 1920x1080 monitor
I have a Centos 5.7 machine with Intel I10 video (built-in, I guess -- this is one of those all-in-one mini terminal things) that I'm trying to put a new 1920x1080 monitor onto, without conspicuous success. Prior to this it's been using a smaller monitor with no issues. Try as I might I can't get the new monitor to run at its 1920x1080 resolution. I just realized that I forgot to

Am I missing something about debugging?
...preted I would expect debugging to be a snap, but these limitations make me suspect there is something about the language design that makes implementing these facilities hard. For example, the browser as documented in the Green book has up and down functions to change the frame (p. 265); these are conspicuously absent in R. -- Ross Boylan wk: (415) 514-8146 185 Berry St #5700 ross at biostat.ucsf.edu Dept of Epidemiology and Biostatistics fax: (415) 514-8150 University of California, San Francisco San Francisco, CA 94107-1739...
