Fixed zeros in tables
Hello All R Users,
Function loglm() in library MASS can be cajoled to accomodate
structural zeros in a cross-classification table. An example from
Fienberg demonstrates how this can be done.
My question is: Can the function glm() perform the same task? Can
glm() estimate a log-linear model with fixed zeros like loglm()?
Thanks for your help,
Andrew

Security: should I be concerned?
Two things have been weighing on my mind regarding security issues.
The first is that when I downloaded the CentOS 4.1 ISO images, I could
not get the sums to match even using different downloads from different
mirrors. I decided that that I was doing something wrong and decided to
trust the images. So far no regrets. But I am concerned that I get it
right the next time. I thought I had read

[LLVMdev] another experimental patch for bug 2606
Hey all,
Attached you will find an experimental patch which allows me to play with a derived JIT class. With this patch
I've alleviated my concerns with forcing cross module behavior for all users of JIT. However this introduces some
new semantics, and kind of circumvents the EngineBuilder API. More important though, I have not addressed
any concern about using stub functions in eager

append_features(mod)
The documentation says:
When this module is included in another, Ruby calls append_features in
this module, passing it the receiving module in mod. Ruby’s default
implementation is to add the constants, methods, and module variables
of this module to mod if this module has not already been added to mod
or one of its ancestors. See also Module#include.

Overriding class_attribute writers and order of super/extend C.M./included block eval in ActiveSupport::Concern
I have:

But, I want to be able to override the class attribute writer and/or
instance writer method to do something when the attribute is set via
self.foobar = true before or after calling super to set the attribute.
Unfortunately, I can''t find a clean way

ActiveSupport::Concern support Module#prepend?
I''ve monkey patched this behavior into a gem and I was wondering if core
would be interested in a PR to add Module#prepend support to
ActiveSupport#Concern. I''ll add tests of course.
The code is here:
https://github.com/dockyard/easy_auth/blob/master/lib/easy_auth/active_support/concern.rb
My monkey patch work for what I''m trying to do but I suspect a better

Why does 'extend ActiveSupport::Concern' cause `undefined method 'recycle!'`?
Working on Rails Engine.
I want to make the controllers customizable whereever the Rails Engine is
used.
Therefore, I was trying to use `extend ActiveSupport::Concern` on the
Engine controller class and include it in MyRailsApp.

Winbind local idmap and cache database security concerns
I am currently working on implementing unified logons between linux and win
computers on an NT4 domain.
I have a samba test server with winbind working properly. All is going
well, except that I am concerned
about the winbind idmap database stored on the local linux workstations. My
current understanding of
winbind is that it must be on every machine, unless an winbind samba ldap

Casting gem usage in Rails 4/Ruby 2 vs. Rails 4 push for concern usage/Rails delegation
Just read about the Casting gem:
https://discuss.gemnasium.com/t/casting-adding-behavior-to-objects-without-using-extend/34
https://github.com/saturnflyer/casting
What are the Rails core team''s opinions about using Casting vs.
ActiveSupport::Concern usage, Rails delegation, etc.?

Active Directory Capacity?
Hi list,
I am wondering if there is a theoretical maximum for an Active Directory
forest, according to Samba or MS? My concern comes from this.
We are piloting AD with Samba 4 at a couple of our schools. My thought was
to eventually get the top-level forest hosted at our central office, then
setup each school as a "site" with its own AD DC at the site, configured to
use each

inconsistency in instruction selection behavior between the older AVX

to fix cases where concepts haven't been extended to wider vectors yet. For

Dual Opteron or Dual Xeon?
I am about to lease another server to be a backup web/mail server with a
replicated mysql database. The current live server is a dual Xeon
2.8Ghz. Would I do better to get another Xeon server or an Opteron
based server? My concerns are compatibility of the database and the SSL
certificate currently running on the Xeon machine. Are these concerns
unfounded?

question concerning the acf function

I've got a question concerning the function acf(.) in R for calculating the
autocorrelation in my data.
I have a table with daily returns of several stocks over time and I would
like to calculate the autocorrelation for all the series (not only for one
time series). How can I do this?
After that I want to apply an autoregressive model based on the estimated

kbcached tuning on CentOS 4
Hello,
I've been searching to no end at how to tune at what interval (or size)
kbcached will be flushed.
I had been chasing a potential memory leak until "sar -r", had revealed
that all the "mysteriously used" memory was actually being taken up by
the kernel data cache. It is chewing up all unused memory on the system
slowly over time, which is a concern. Various
