More Cores or more CPU Speed
Hi Guys,
in next week i plan to upgrade my Asterisk Server. To buy the optimal Hardware i have a question.
What is better more cores (eg. 2x quadcore) or more CPU speed for a server that handle a lot of of Meetme Concerences with hundreds of concurrent G711 alaw Channels (no transcoding) ?
in my opinion, more cores are better, because Asterisk ist multithreded and each channel has a good

File-Server update from Samba 3.6 to Samba 4.1
Hello,
I'm preparing a update from a heterogen environment with the services OpenLDAP,
Kerberos, Bind9, Samba 3.6 (NT-Domain), NFS4 to a Samba4 AD. I'm setting up a test
environment with a separate DC and a file server.
There are some questions about the file server which is a debian file server with some TB
of data right now.
The first question is, what to do with the existing TB of

WINBIND idmap and tdbfiles while upgrading to 3.0.20a
Hello everybody,
had anyone of you problems with winbind and tdbfiles, when
upgrading from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20a?
The Symptom was:
After upgrading to 3.0.20a the idmapping was corrupt.
Although 3.0.20a runs fine, none of the idmaping was
resolved correctly. Downgrading to 3.0.14a "restored"
the idmaps. tdbdump showed me the same idmappings,
therefor i think winbind wasn't able

Call Quality Issues with IAX?
...e IAX if you want, but we will not assist with any issues you may
> encounter.
Does anyone else know about these "known" problems? I'm not sure
where this provided got this information, but it sounds like a crock.
I've never experienced any of the above issues with IAX.
I am concered about the reference to a "lossy protocol". How is a
protocol lossy? I've heard of lossy compression, which has nothing to
do with the protocol used to trasmit compressed data...but I've never
heard of a lossy "protocol".
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Aaron

Compare two lists, with their sublists that have same structure
Dear all,
I would like to ask your help concering two R lists.
If I did everything should have the same structure (that means the same number of sublists, and their sublists also the same number of sublists). What would change between the two lists is the contents of each element in the lists.
Could you please help me understand how I can do that in R?
I would like to thank you in advance for

System is computationally singular and scale of covariates
Dear all,
I'm running a self-written numerical optimization routine (hazard
model) which includes computing the inverse of the outer product of
the score. I have been getting the above error message ("System is
computationally singular"), and after some tweaking, I realized that
these variables have some high numbers and the problem could be
circumvented by scaling them down (i.e.

{lattice/grid} "Error using packet 1" and traceback
On some errors during the plot of a lattice/grid graphics, there is written
a message like "Error using packet 1: missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed"
into the concering panel and the next panel is plotted.
Which option I could use to stop the execution to have a look
at the error by a traceback?

Security suggestion concering SSH and port forwarding.
Hi,
sorry if it is the wrong approuch to suggest improvments to OpenSSH,
but here comes my suggestion:
I recently stumbled upon the scponly shell which in it's chroot:ed form is
an ideal solution when you want to share some files with people you trust
more or less.
The problem is, if you use the scponlyc as shell, port forwarding is still
allowed. This can of course be dissallowed in

[EXPERIENCES] with OpenLDAP and Samba and Redundancy ???
hi
i'm looking for hints/experiences concering samba v3, openldap AND
redundancy
my setup is:
Samba PDC with LDAP Master
Samba BDC with LDAP Slave
Samba Member Server, contacting first PDC, then BDC if the first fails
if all instances are working properly, everything is okay
replication is also fine (from Master -> Slave)
and now imagine:
LDAP Master dies
all smbd are contacting LDAP

Results of nessus scan
I run samba 2.2.8a on my openbsd 3.4 box, installed from a package.
All i need is the ability to mount disks form winxp boxes so i only run
smbd, at 139/tcp.
I tried scanning the box with nessus, and it came up with some results
that got me curious.
Since i dont know very much about the smb protocol I thought i should
ask here.
Have searched the archives but found only old posts, concering

Indeed I think weakening in the security aspect may be a problem if we are
to merge RELRO into RX. Keeping the old layout would be more
preferable IMHO.
