problem with rdocdir option when installing R2.3.1
Hi, In the "R documentation and Administration" manual it is said that "The configure or make variables |rdocdir| and |rsharedir| can be used to install the system-independent doc and share directories to somewhere other than |libdir|". Then I've installed R v2.3.1 on a solaris platform (SunOS 5.9) with the following commands : > ./configure

I can not get an XP machine to join a samba-ldap domain The machine account has been made The XP registry and local policies have been set I continue to get 'specified domain does not exist' I have gone in circles nad can't figure a thing out! DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL by xennet.sys, Server 2008 x64
Hey guys, I''m trying to get a gentoo dom0 running on some new Nehalem boxes. Our dozen or so existing servers run a xenified 2.6.21, but we can''t get the new Intel network chipset working with it. So, I''m giving a pv_ops dom0 from xen-tip/master a go, and Xen 3.4.1 to go with it. rebase/master is a bit too bleeding edge for me. So far, it''s working great.

Single crontab entry for every 15 minutes beginning & ending on the hour
...in a single line? */15 8-17 * * 1-5 will run 8:00 - 17:45. That's not what I want. Likewise */15 8-16 * * 1-5 will have the last run at 16:45, not 17:00 This is more of a brainteaser than a real problem. I can easily configure the job with multiple entries, but I'm a little obsessive-compulsive so I want to try to do it with one entry. # rpm -qa vixie-cron vixie-cron-4.1-49.EL4 -- Jeff

[LLVMdev] Tiki Wiki For LLVM ?
As I've been reviewing the LLVM documentation, I noticed several typos or things that could be explained in more detail. My compulsion was to just go and fix it, but I can't do that because I have no access to the sources. Has there been any thought of putting up a Tiki Wiki for LLVM? If you're not familiar with Tiki Wiki, its a PHP/MySQL based content management system.

Stepwise model selection question
I use the step() function occasionally, and I think I understand its objective, proper use, and limitations. Now I see stepwise model selection being used in what seems to be an unusual way, and I wonder if it is right or wrong. May I describe? Genetic mapping tries to find where in an animal's genome are genetic elements that influence a particular physical trait. Say there are 100

irrelevant warning message
Context: R version 2.7.1 (2008-06-23) I don't know when this was upgraded in the department, I just ran into the aberrent behavior today. Problem: Our group BY CHOICE does not change character variables into factors by default. I can get into a long arguement as to why later, and will give one example of why below. The default behavior of S, Splus and R has been to create

As someone who compulsively writes documenation, I know exactly what you mean. It seems that no one appreciates the effort invested. But when I look at things from my perspective, I find it so much more rewarding working with software that is well documented, and so I try to emulate that. OpenBSD is an excellent example o...

how long until 1.1?
...uot;Christians and their opponents again and again expect that some new discovery will either turn matters of faith into matters of knowledge or else reduce them to patent absurdities. But it has never happened. What we believe always remains intellectually possible; it never becomes intellectually compulsive. iXsystems is looking for a full-time system administrator
Hi! Does the sight of a poorly formatted, though syntactically valid, configuration file make at least one of your eyelids twitch? Have you ever disowned a family member after failing to convince them to back up their systems properly? Have you ever spent an evening compulsively labeling cables in an operational rack? If you answered ?Yes, oh God, yes!!? to at least 2 of the 3 questions above, AND you have a sound operational knowledge of Enterprise SAN, NAS and general networking products as well as the ability to actually make a VMWare host boot over iSCSI after creat...

who needs documentation?
...ng months. So I'd like to volunteer my services to write some needed documentation, tutorials, FAQs, etc. I am "fluent" in C and C++ and am not bad at Perl. I have been told I'm good at explaining things. I am anal-retentive about grammar, syntax, and spelling. I proofread compulsively. On the other hand, I didn't pay enough attention in linear algebra, so I don't remember how to multiply two non-square matrices, much less what a(n) MDCT is. So API references are probably out. Also I have no experience with formats other than plain text and HTML, which means man p...
