obvious answer
I apologise for this question, as I'm sure the answer has got to be obvious, but I am trying to follow the John Maindonald tutorial and have stumbled at the first page. I have sussed out that I need to use the source command rather than the read.table command as illustrated in the tutorial, but the data isn't reading in properly with additional names at the beginning and end of the

Installation
I seem to have some problems installing the latest R-Windows. How do you know when the installer has completed its actions. On each occasion I tried to install, the installer has just stopped, but with no message saying "install complete" or something similar. Although, I have R installed and some it seems to work The graphics demo doesn't do anything, though other demos seem

Post hoc tests
This is only partly an R question, but this seems a good place to ask. Like many, if not most, statistics programs, R has no post hoc tests for Kruskal Wallis or Friedman, and as far as I can make out they are not available in any of the R packages. I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction if I am wrong. As I said this is not uncommon. Parametric Anova procedures

MFWorks and R
I know there is some integration between Grass and R available, but has anyone produced a link between R and MFWorks. I am considering Buying MFWorks (Windows) and it would be useful to know if anyone has written such a link. Many thanks, Graham S -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read

installing labDSV library
I am trying to install labDSV from http://labdsv.nr.usu.edu/ into R-Windows 1.5.0. It only comes as a TAR file which extracts into folders that seem to match those for other libraries DATA, MAN, R and SRC. I have manually copied these folders into a folder called labDSV under the Library directory under R. However when I load the library I get a message that the library contains no R code.

COM: port problems
Unfortunately, almost all the Windows programs I want to run under Wine need to access the COM: ports, and I cannot get any of them to run. Typically, I get stuff like this ... fixme:comm:EscapeCommFunction16 no cid=0 found! fixme:comm:EscapeCommFunction16 no cid=0 found! err:comm:COMM16_ReadComplete async read failed 000003e3 fixme:comm:EscapeCommFunction16 no cid=3 found!
