We run Samba 2.2 on a Solaris 7 box. My workaround is to stop samba completlely, kill all smbd and nmbd processes and remove/delete the samba/var/locks folder. If I don't remove the locks folder then the explorer on any windows client trying to connect to a share with a locked file will freeze.
