[RFC] virtio_pci draft spec
Hi all,
http://ozlabs.org/~rusty/virtio-spec/
I've been working on a draft spec for virtio PCI. It also serves (via the
appendices) as a spec for the various devices we have.
It's not entirely uptodate with latest changes, but it's a start.
Commentry and patches welcome (against the lyx source pref.)
Thanks,
Rusty.

FC5. Samba 3.0.23a Win XP Pro SP2. Cannot logon from XP to samba on Fedora
Hello,
I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. When I select the samba server from WIndowsXP, a dialog box prompts for the userid and password. When userid and password are entered the dialog box just redisplays and I am not logged on, no matter how many time I try.

using samba over AT@T broadband
Hello. I'm a Graduate Student, and I'm trying to set up Samba on my
Solaris 2.8 box so that my team members can network map their home
accounts from my Solaris box onto their PC.
Everything works great within my home. (i.e. I have a home network, and
all my PC's can mount my UNIX home directory.)
My problem: I can't network map my Home Directory outside my local
subnet.

samba 3.0 logon problem
I have 3.0 working with win98/95 clients. And win2k/XP clients are able
to join the domain. However when the win2k/XP clients try to logon the
get "Username or password incorrect". My reading indicates that this is
a sign/schannel issue, but I have edited the registry and force no
signing and still no luck. Any suggestions?

A working solution to the XP domain reboot problem
Hey,
I worked for days on this, and I want to share the solution I stubled across.
I got this error message from my wife XP laptop:
"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either
because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because
your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this
message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for

[win2k] Epson777 "IT WORKS !!!!!"
Hello Family,
(smb.conf file attached)
Well I was here messing with the smb.conf file and don't ask me why
or how but here it is and it prints to the Epson777 Stylus
color inkjet with a "Edimax Mini Print Server" attached to the
back with a static IP from Windows2000.
The only slight quirk is that the "Epson Status Monitor" pops up

openssh + pam errors (fwd)
heres a fix for pam support im openssh, inline and attached.. openssh
calls do_pam_session early, before a fork(). it does this on the proc
still running as root, so it checks the users limits, against what root
has running, and depending on limits can fail at the fork() (and almost
always does). this patch moves it past the fork. ive been running it for
a couple of weeks and everything seems

Cannot find Primary Domain - Please help, rather urgent
Hello,
I'm getting a persistent error at login (effectively locking me out) on
two Win2k machines that were once assigned to a domain on my windows
network (win2k server was once the PDC, just changed to Samba)
Cannot log you into the primary because the system's computer account
is missing or the password was incorrect.
The old domain was:

Initial install - networking problem
Hi,
I'm just installing Samba for the first time and have a problem with
name resolution on my test client. Samba 3.0.8 is installed on
a RHES system named 'fileserver1 (.our.xxx.edu)'. The clients
are Windows 2000 and XP systems. This is a subnet that is part of
a larger campus network. There is no Domain, just a workgroup
called 'our_adm'. I have a very simple smb.conf

[patch V3 25/37] mm/highmem: Provide kmap_local*
Now that the kmap atomic index is stored in task struct provide a
preemptible variant. On context switch the maps of an outgoing task are
removed and the map of the incoming task are restored. That's obviously
slow, but highmem is slow anyway.
The kmap_local.*() functions can be invoked from both preemptible and
atomic context. kmap local sections disable migration to keep the resulting

newbie problem: can't mount win xp disk into linux (regkey is set)
Got two machines connected via a 10MBit Hub:
One Slackware Linux 8.1 with eth0 = Realtek8139 (working fine),
one WindowsXP Pro, same NIC, registry key for proper auth is set.
The Windows machine is called xerxes on which the C dir is shared, and there
is /mnt/xerxes/ on the Linux box.
The command:
# mount -t smbfs -o username=(username on win machine),password=(passwd on win
# machine)
