PSARC 2009/571: ZFS deduplication properties
I haven''t seen any mention of it in this forum yet, so FWIW you might be interested in the details of ZFS deduplication mentioned in this recently-filed case.
Case log: http://arc.opensolaris.org/caselog/PSARC/2009/571/

Very nice -- I like the interaction with "copies", and (like a few others) I think

Putting an index explicitly into function code --- a curiosity.
I want to create a list of functions in a for loop, with the index
of the loop appearing explicitly in the function code.
After quite a bit of thrashing around I figured out how to do it.
Here is a toy example:
junk <- vector("list",4)
for(i in 1:4) {
itmp <- i
junk[[i]] <- eval(bquote(function(x){42 + .(itmp)*x}))
}
So I'm *basically* happy, but there's

Big Thanks to Johnny
As a result of following Johnny's handy dandy guide, the
postfix/clamav/spamassassin/squirrelmail/dovecot install on one of my
new 4.3 boxes was mostly painless. I've been using postfix and keeping
in touch with Wietse since 98-ish so I'm quite comfy with postfix, but
all this new fangled mail scanning stuff is a bit confusing to an old
dog like me. :-) It seems to mostly work,

Any pioneers who've configured passenger to support some apps running in 1.8.x others in 1.9?
Passenger configuration selects which ruby executable to use via a
global configuration variable (at least for Apache, I assume it''s the
same for Nginx).
I''m in a situation where I''ve got at least one rails app I''d like to
run on 1.9 while others remain on 1.8. This is for my development
machine running OS X 10.6. Normally I just use the Passenger PrefPane,

Rails Development on a Mac Mini?
How many people out there are doing Rails development on a Mac Mini? I''ve
been eyeing up the MacBook as well as the new MacMini trying to decide if I
want to splurge. I''ve been doing very little Rails development thus far
which makes the investment a little hard to justify. The Free Mini Mac (

Mongrel Tuneup Guide: Questions
Hi!
I''ve been following the new mongrel tuneup guide (a huge thanks for
that btw) and here are my results. I''ve basically only gotten to the
point where I''m tuning up 1 mongrel because I suspect I have a
performance problem with my rails app.

update for 5.3
Hey its been over a week for updated 5.3 status...
http://twitter.com/centos :)
Not being silly, just got a couple motherboards sitting here collecting
dust as 5.2 wont install on them. Hoping 5.3 will.
with all the updated NIC drivers.
By the way, KB, when I got married I had the understanding that I at
least got a new computer every year!
Got to set things straight from the beginning!

date_select and :include_blank
Hi,
date_select is a great helper, but I couldn''t find a way to make it display
a text like "Please Select" instead of blank field.
When I use date_select with a param of :include_blank => true, it renders an
option with a value of "" and string of "". I want to display "Please
Select". Anyway to do this? Maybe overwriting ActionView modules

arima() in package ts.
I've been trying to get comfy with arima() and associated functions
in the ts() package. I'm thinking seriously about using this
package, and R generally, in a 4th year intro time series course that
I'm teaching this autumn.
I have a couple of questions about arima:
(1) The help file says that residuals component of the value returned
by arima() consists of the

CMS Recommendations
Hello all,
I’m moving to Rails from another OO language where I’ve built my own
extensive CMS systems - and I’m the kind of guy who learns by breaking
things and figuring out why they broke. Strange method but true - I guess
I’m just the impatient sort :)
Since I’m most familiar with CMS architecture and multi-level
user/group/authenicated access systems I thought it logical to start with a

CentOS Stream suitability as a production webserver
Hello
I've recently discovered the announcement regarding the change in direction
for the CentOS project and I imagine like many others, I'm confused and
concerned about what this means moving forward.
I work for a small web development agency and we offer hosting as part of
our package to clients who need it. We have many CentOS 7 web servers
(DigitalOcean droplets) (LAMP/LEMP) that I

I wouldn't say that myself, I've gotten tons of help from
this list in the past. Of course, I usually check google.com
before going to this list, so maybe my usage pattern doesn't
quite match. =)

Courious, how rumors like this can come up. Icecast1 doesn't get much
