Delayed ringing on some SIP phones
Hello all,
One of the buildings I have an asterisk box deployed in is used by two small
companies on two floors. They have an agreement between them whereby they'll
answer each other's incoming calls and take messages if the office is empty
/ everyone is on the phone.
Each of them has an ISDN BRI delivered to asterisk via zaphfc, then dropped
into a context as follows:

running an icecast server
oops, I hit the return and it got sent.
All those questions depends on the application you setting up. if your
worried about security, isolate the icecast server from your network.
We designed a user interface on the company web site fronts the stream
servers. The customers get a simple URL for the stream. We use several
stream servers some on site and some off, our web server setup to server

Web Hosting requirements for Rails apps???
...from your experience that now I
have a rails application. I am looking to host it on internet and do not
know which webhosting company I need to go with.
Is there anything special required which I need to look for before
deciding to go with the web hosting company. almost all of the web
hosting comapnies provide hosting services on Linux with MySQL database.
Hoping to have an answer from the experienced folks.
Cheers,
Masood

Models and Inheritance
I have a table of companies and a join table forming the relationship
between a list of possible services they can provide.
Working from a basic understanding of OOP I assumed that there should be
a series of Serviceprovider child objects of the company class.
Company < ActiveRecord::Base
has_belongs_to_many :services
end

Multiple tennants, two DIDs, One IAX provider
I would like to setup a system with two tennants with two seperate DIDs through one IAX provider account.
Is it possible to route the calls into different contexts based on the DID dialed?
I have searched and found nothing. I do not see anywhere in the console that says what DID was dialed so I am thinking two seperate accounts are needed to make this work. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks

Nortel 1140E
Anyone get the Nortel 1140E phones working with Asterisk ?
These look like great phones and I would like to start using them on
our deployments. I know these will work with Asterisk but the sample
config files are hard to find. My next step, if I cant find anything on
this list is to purchase a Nortel Communication Server for testing.
If anyone has a used NCS that works with these phone via SIP

sip interopability problem
Hi,
I have two asterisk machines side by side both running debian sarge, one running sarge's version of asterisk (1.0.7.dfsg.1-2) and the other running the version of asterisk from www.backports.org (1:1.2.1.dfsg-2bpo1).
I also have a SIP provider who is routing blocks of DID's to both machines. The sip.conf is nearly identical on both machines (the general section, and the section

YAPQ (Yet Another Patent Question)
Looks like the mpeg gestapo are frantically at work cracking down on mpeg
projects. Several important projects (tsunami mpeg, gogo, faac, etc) were
shut down by the jack booted patent nazis.
Since FhG, mpegla, etc plan to start charging royalties on
everything even remotely mpeg-related very soon, I expect a lot of
interest is going to shift to Vorbis.
And soon thereafter, I expect FhG to attack

Case studies for Asterisk Voicemail
I'm planning an Asterisk Voicemail system of around 3000 users spread
across several sites, each site connected by a fast network to a central
site. We're considering 2 models:
- Central Voicemail with VoIP calls from remote sites (easier to
administer the system(s)).
- Voicemail server at each site with shared database and NFS server at
the central site (easier to connect to the

[Bug 423] Workaround for pw change in privsep mode (3.5.p1)
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423
------- Additional Comments From djm at mindrot.org 2003-03-10 12:06 -------
The patch looks good, but the only thing that makes me wary is the use of
signals for IPC. Would it not be possible to do the chauthtok call earlier? E.g.
after the call to do_pam_session() in do_exec_pty()?

running an icecast server
Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of running an Icecast server and I would like to know
some best pratices.
1. Should I place Icecast on port 8000 or should I change that to one more
common (80, 443...)?
2. Should I place the server behind a webserver like ngingx or apache?
3.Can I disable the login interface? what can be disabled?
My best guess is to run icecast behind a webserver,

Advanced dovecot tricks - spam review/release
Hi,
I'm looking for some advice to do a really advanced trick with Dovecot.
I'm not sure if this can be done. I need to describe first.
I have a spam filtering company that does front end spam filtering.
(Junk Email Filter) I want to add a system where I store a copy of spam
on a server and make it available to the customer to review and maybe
resent on false positives.
I know I

Shaping traffic on heavily oversubscribed links?
Hi all,
I am having some fun with traffic shaping, and have run into an
interesting situation. Here is South Africa, most internet links are
heavily oversubscribed, which means that in most cases the local link is
_not_ the bottleneck, and shaping on the local link does not help that
much...
Does anybody have some tips on shaping such links? How can you get
interractive traffic if you
