NetworkWorld article on Open Source Telephony
An interesting article for those needing ammunition to sell Asterisk within
their organisation or to others:
"Is open source IP telephony ready for prime time? Yes"
by Zenas Hutcheson, St. Paul Venture Capital
Network World, 06/07/04
http://www.nwfusion.com/columnists/2004/0607faceoffyes.html
On a related note, they also have an article arguing the contrary position
(see link within article). I'm too busy right now to write up a response
showing the flaws in that column but others on the list might wish to
contribute to the fray.

public-key ?
Hi,
I'm not a crypto expert, so after reading this interview with Bruce Schneier
( http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/324 ) I'm wondering if OpenSSH has
the same problem he talks about, that is one public-key algorithm.
Doesn't OpenSSH use RSA, DSA, and DH ?
Also, is there any plan to include those new NSA standards based on ECC ?

glibc-2.5-58.el5_6.2.i686 broken?
Hi,
I woke up Saturday morning unable to boot my freshly upgraded 5.6 with
grub hanging at "GRUB". After getting the boot loader fixed I
experienced crashes in evolution. Downgrading glibc to 2.5-58 seems to
fix these issues. Anyone else seeing this?
Leonard.

Rails Newbie--where do I configure webrick to start using ssl certs/https?
...e it has to be tied into a single sign on solution(that uses
secure cookies), an application that I''ve inherited absolutely
requires that all requests go over secure http.
I''ve seen this:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/HowToEnableSSL
and this:
http://www.networkworld.com/columnists/2007/090507-dr-internet.html
And they give me an idea of what I''ve got to do, but they don''t seem
to get me all the way there.
With regards to the HowTo on the RoR homepage, it just gives
development examples, using filters. With regards to Dr. Internet, he
doesn''t say...

Announcing a new Ruby journal
2 April 2009
My name is Martin Streicher. I am pleased to announce three new
publications dedicated to web developers.
Red: The Journal of Ruby Development
Facade: The Journal of Front-end Development
Tabula: The Journal of Open Source Database Development
The three publications obviously have a great number of topics in
common between then, and much that is unique. Where ever possible,

Grep: show me this line and the next N lines?
Can grep show the matching lines and the next N lines after a match?
For instance, I have a config file wit hthe following text:
[Tag h1]
foreground=#2e5a03
underline=double
indent=0
weight=PANGO_WEIGHT_BOLD
scale=2.25
I would ideally grep on "[Tag h1]" and have grep display the match and
the next 5 lines so that I see all the content of the h1 section.
Can this be done?
Thanks!

Updates offered annoyance
Hi all,
I downloaded latest CentOS 5.5 DVD i386 image from one of FTP's in a list.
I've burned that image to DVD and created new DVD to use for fresh
installations.
Now when I install fresh CentOS 5.5 (in VM) I am getting info that there are
50 packages updates.
This is ok when I have good internet speed (@work) but when I am home, this
update takes a lot of time.
I guess I can skip

What's wrong with yum-priorities?
"The upstream maintainer of yum, Seth Vidal, had the following to say
about 'yum priorities' in September 2009:
Gosh, I hope people do not set up yum priorities. There are so many things
about priorities that make me cringe all over. It could just be that it
reminds me of apt 'pinning' and that makes me want to hurl."

The Origins of R
In another thread on this list, various wild allegations have been
made, relating to the New York Times article on R. I object both to
the subject line and to the content of several of the messages, and
will not repeat or quote any of that content. It smacks to me of
mischief making.
Discussion has centered around the following quote from the NY Times
article:
?According to them, the
