Codepages
I've seen this in the message data base, but no responses. Running RH
5.1,
with samba out of the box, I get the message:
unable to load codepage /etc/codepages/codepage.850
in log files and smbclient startups. Is this a problem? How is it fixed?
There are no codepage directories that I can see anywhere in RH. Did I
miss a module to install?

smbmount codepage problem
...American Spanish version of Windows ME.
I am trying to use smbmount to allow me to mount her machine's
Windows file shares. I have set up the shares on her machine, and then
am using smbmount to mount them under Debian. I am able to successfully
mount the shares, however the character sets and codepages seem to be
incorrectly configured. Filenames with non-ASCII characters (such as ?
[o acute] and ? [n tilde]) get garbled.
Local files with Latin-1 characters in their names display fine on my
terminal. So, I believe that my problem has to do with the codepage and
charset settings that I am feeding...

Hungarian codepage problem using smbmount
...here is no difference when using the
iocharset and codepage options or when there is no such option at all or
when I used ISO8859-1 and cp850 instead of ISO8859-2 and cp852. Why is
this? Maybe the codepage files are in a wrong directory on my Linux
system? Now they can be found under /var/lib/samba/codepages/
It is interesting that files containing hungarian characters shared
under Linux can be perfectly well opened, copied and manipulated
remotely using a Windows 2000 machine. So the Samba server is OK, only
the client is not working as needed.
Thanks in advance for your help,

smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi,
I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the
system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount,
smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very
clear about smbmnt though!
I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300
to 400Kb each.
I understand that Samba is capable of doing

Codepage inconsistencies
...#39;ve tried codepage=850, codepage=437, codepage=1252, and a
lot of other possible values I could find for both codepage and
iocharset parameters, but none fixed the problem.
I don't know what else to try.. I read somewhere that windows has a
distinction between OEM codepage and ANSI codepages, but nothing
explaining exactly what is being used or how to make a conversion
between them...
Does anyone know how to debug this problem?
BTW, the default locale in the NT4 server is set as "U.S"
(regional settings in the control panel). If I set it to "Brasil",

i tried a lot of CHARSET but it did nothing
samba 3 seems to have less codepages than in samba 2 .
How can i recover the former behaviour we had with Samba 2 ?

codepage-conversion for smbclient
Hi list,
I've browsed through the archives, but I didn't find a answer for
this:
I use smbclient to access a windowsNT 4.0 server.
I get only '?' for filenames which contains Umlauts.
F.e., a file called "Verkn?pfung" is displayed as "Verkn?pfung".
I use following mount-string:
mount.smbfs //SERVER/Share /home/xxx -o rw noexec nosuid nodev user

I am really stuck. can anyone help me please?
first of all, i only see the codepage.932 which i want to use is 8bytes, is

smbpasswd "codepage.850" error
When I use the smbpasswd utility that came with

load_client_codepage: filename /etc/codepages/codepage.850

It's true. There is no /etc/codepages directory.
If you have one, maybe it belongs to an rpm package, and
you can tell me which one
(rpm -qvf /etc/codepages/codepage.850 to see)?
Or is this a direct product of samba, and I don't have it
because I used an rp...

codepage & character set
Hi,
I migrated files from an existing NT fileserver to a new samba server.
Unfortunately I did not make my homework properly and forget to set
"codepage" and "character set" in the global section. Bit this was necessary
for the

Now my dilemma is the following:

German codepage and Samba3.0alpha20
...explorer.
Unix charset = ISO8859-1
... The hammer. Makes smbpasswd or tdbsam unreadable
and prohibits samba logons: telling me something like
"readsmbpwfileentry: no colons (:) in line "
for each line in smbpasswd.
I see there are no codepage files anymore, just some DAT
files in the codepages dir, and no documentation so far.
Google didn't help me so far.
Anyone got a hint?
